Position Description

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify customer needs and Grainger's defendable action plan for becoming the customer's first and best choice for satisfying their MRO needs.
  • Support the cross-functional efforts for designing and developing Grainger's customer offer for a specific segment of customers.
  • Be the champion of the customer issues/needs throughout the entire offer process. 
  • Reporting directly to segment Senior Director, defines, designs, and develops customer insights and solutions to position Grainger as the most relevant customer solution in the segment. Is THE in-house expert and advocate for segment and for the Large customer Services and Solutions team
  • Develops, advocates, and drives implementation of segment specific value proposition and customer experience across all service channels
  • Understands the key drivers, needs and MRO market of customer segment better than anyone
  • Regularly analyzes, interprets and applies industry, market, customer and competitive data to create effective business propositions and plans
  • Forecasts future trends and opportunities.  Develops strategies for emerging markets, product and service opportunities, and other future plans and approaches to ensure growth of segment. Identifies potential new segments.
  • Provides analysis of Segment Business Performance to identify potential changes to strategy or tactics
  • Personally represents Grainger through membership and participation in key industry associations, initiatives and events
  • Collaborates to share best practices

Position Requirements:

  • MA/MS/MBA or equivalent preferred
  • 5 to 7 years experience in a related field preferred.
  • Mature business leader with over 5-7 years work experience in an industry leading B2C or B2B company. Knowledge of assigned segment a plus.
  • Strong strategic / innovative thinker grounded in analytics. Proven track record of converting strategic thoughts into actions that drive business results.
  • Strong leader and developer of people.  Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels and senior leaders in a collaborative manner.
  • Ability to develop and communicate customer insight findings and recommendations, creating actionable strategies for marketing and partner functions.
  • Experience in cultivating relationships with key stakeholders across functions and levels to achieve business objectives and drive strategic change.
  • Ability to operate in a complex, rapidly changing environment while adhering to tight schedules and budgets.
