Grainger’s Global Supply Chain program is designed to provide recent college graduates a broad and well-rounded learning experience to understand how the best in class supply chain organization operates! Participants will experience exponential growth technically, analytically and professionally across multiple functions. This will allow participants to gain in-depth knowledge of the business and add value throughout the organization.

Our Global Supply Chain works to reduce the time it takes, lower the costs, and expand the methods in which products get to customers. Grainger is committed to providing next-day shipping, or same-day pickup, for all customers at our branch or onsite locations, and our network of distribution centers and branches make this possible.

While our purchasing process is simple to customers, there are many activities happening behind the scenes to create an effortless experience. We ensure customers are able to keep their operations running safely and effectively every day.

To succeed in the maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) industry, Grainger has to provide customers with the products and solutions they need to solve problems fast. Within Merchandising & Supplier Management (MSM), we approach this challenge in two ways:

1. Merchandising enables customers to quickly find the products they need by considering:

  • What products should we sell?
  • How do we organize and present products to show the value of our assortment?
  • What information do customers need to choose products efficiently and with confidence?
We answer these questions by refining our assortment and presentation of products on Grainger.com, our mobile app, and other channels.

2. Supplier Management partners closely with Merchandising in considering the products we offer and maintains our strong relationships with suppliers enabling us to facilitate changes to our product assortment. Common responsibilities include foundational supplier relationship management (national vs. private brands), cost negotiations, and contract compliance.

Together MSM works to create a cohesive and seamless customer experience that provides needed solutions to MRO challenges.

Technology powers our strategy and supports Grainger’s goal to remain the world’s best distributor. We do this by delivering capabilities that enable customers to quickly and confidently find and buy the right solutions to keep their operations running.

Our work supports the ever-changing and dynamic needs of a supply chain carrying 1.5 million products and an employee base of over 25,000; enabling Grainger to provide better insights to our customers, empower team members to solve customers’ problems faster and with more expertise and ultimately, enable growth through a stronger competitive advantage.

Roles range from product managers and UX designers to software engineers and information security analysts. Recent work includes a cutting-edge visual search feature now available on the Grainger iOS and Android apps that allows customers to find the product they need by simply snapping or uploading a picture.

Engineering Development Program:
This program enables early-career team members to gain experience with a variety of tech stacks across our business units. Each engineer or analyst participates in three 8-month rotations, exposing them to a variety of teams and leaders within the Grainger Technology Group and accelerating their career.

After graduation, team members continue their careers drawing upon robust foundational knowledge to support their ability to pursue leadership opportunities.

Our Finance organization’s vision is to build a diverse, world class team that is customer focused and excels at partnership, innovation, reporting and analysis to drive strategy and results. To live into this vision, we build Finance Athletes – team members who build experience as broad-thinking finance professionals to drive value to the organization.

Finance Athletes are developed through a rotational program as well as through individual career development and progression planning. As strong collaborators across the organization, our talent will be sought after both internally and externally. Our Finance team is comprised of the following functions:

  • Controllership – Accounting and Tax
  • Treasury – Risk Management, Capital Markets and Working Capital Management
  • Investor Relations – Interactions with Investing Community
  • Financial Shared Services – Transactional Processing of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit and Collections
  • Internal Audit – Financial, Operational and Compliance Process Audits and Facilitation of Enterprise Risk Management
  • Finance Continuous Improvement – Process Improvement, Data Solutions and Governance, Data Visualization and Data Science
  • Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis – Enterprise-Wide Planning and Forecasting
  • Operations Finance – Business Partnership to Drive Insights Regarding Growth and Productivity

Financial Development Program:
This program for recent graduates consists of three year-long rotations across various roles in Finance where participants gain the unique advantage of a broad network and breadth of experience only a few years out of school.

The rotations, combined with supplemental mentorship, leadership, and developmental opportunities, provide the perfect pathway into a successful Finance career.
