Compensation

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $123,000.00$205,100.00. This role is eligible for an incentive target of up to 20 %, based on the achievement of individual and company performance objectives in accordance with the current terms of the incentive program which are subject to change.

Position Details

The Senior Manager, Engineering Design leads supply chain engineering design activities that develop and implement distribution network solutions to improve customer service, reduce total supply chain cost, and support Grainger’s North American growth plans. The role applies internal performance data, external market information, customer requirements, competitive insights, and industry technology trends to shape distribution strategy and prioritized improvement opportunities. The position leads teams and cross-functional partners through complex network design, modeling, analysis, pilots, and implementation work across domestic and international supply chain environments. The role develops executive-level recommendations and influences senior leaders, vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to align priorities, investments, tools, and execution plans.



You Will

  • Lead supply chain engineering design activities that translate Grainger performance data, customer requirements, competitive landscape insights, industry trends, and technology developments into distribution network strategies that improve service, cost, capacity, and scalability across North American operations.
  • Develop models, analyses, pilots, and business cases to identify domestic and international supply chain improvement opportunities, including network design, operations planning, inventory planning, transportation, service performance, cost optimization, and supply chain finance impacts.
  • Partner across supply chain, distribution operations, inventory, transportation, finance, technology, and business stakeholders to understand end-to-end dependencies, assess operational tradeoffs, and prioritize design opportunities that support enterprise supply chain objectives.
  • Manage multiple complex engineering design projects in a dynamic environment by defining scope, aligning resources, coordinating cross-functional execution, resolving barriers, and ensuring prioritized initiatives are implemented with measurable service, cost, and operational outcomes.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of supply chain professionals by setting clear priorities, building analytical and engineering design capability, guiding performance, and supporting leadership development aligned to current and future business needs.
  • Develop executive-level content, recommendations, and investment narratives that communicate strategy, analysis, operational implications, risks, and expected outcomes to senior leaders, internal partners, external vendors, contractors, and technology providers.

 

You Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Statistics, Finance, or a related field required
  • 7+ years of combined experience in supply chain network design or optimization, operations planning, inventory planning, transportation, supply chain finance, or a related supply chain discipline required
  • Knowledge of supply chain network design, optimization, modeling, operations planning, inventory planning, transportation, and cost-to-serve concepts in complex distribution environments.
  • Experience leading analytical projects that use internal data, external information, customer requirements, competitive insights, and industry trends to evaluate supply chain strategy, service performance, cost, and investment decisions.
  • Experience managing and developing teams of supply chain professionals, including setting priorities, coaching performance, building technical capability, and aligning work to business objectives.
  • Knowledge of complex, high-SKU, high-service distribution environments, including the operational dependencies among distribution operations, inventory, transportation, finance, technology, vendors, contractors, and external partners.
