Compensation

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $80,000.00$133,300.00. This role is eligible for an incentive target of up to 10 % or $ , based on the achievement of individual and company performance objectives in accordance with the current terms of the incentive program which are subject to change.

Position Details

The Learning and Development Consultant Senior provides professional partnership with the business to diagnose skill gaps and design, deliver, and continuously improve skills‑based learning solutions that drive employee performance and growth at Grainger. Applying Grainger's Essential Skills framework, adult learning theory, and instructional design best practices, the role translates complex business needs into practical, engaging learning experiences across ILT, VILT, blended pathways, microlearning, and performance support. The role serves as both instructional designer and facilitator, creating and delivering learning assets while adapting in real time to maximize learner engagement, application, and sustained behavior change. Acting as a trusted consultative partner, the role owns learning projects end to end and coaches learners, managers, and leaders to apply skills on the job within the enterprise learning ecosystem.
 
This is a hybrid position that is onsite in Lake Forest 2 days a week.


You Will

  • Designs and develops skills-based learning solutions using a skill-first (not course-first) approach, grounding all work in adult learning theory and instructional design best practices to drive measurable performance improvement.
  • Creates engaging learning experiences across ILT, VILT, blended pathways, microlearning, and performance support to enable skill practice, real-world application, and long-term reinforcement.
  • Translates complex business and performance needs into clear, practical learning assets—including facilitator guides, participant materials, job aids, toolkits, and simulations—to support consistent and effective skill development.
  • Facilitates and delivers learning experiences in both in-person and virtual environments, adapting content and delivery in real time to maximize learner engagement, relevance, and impact.
  • Serves as a hands-on trainer and coach by supporting learners, managers, and leaders in applying skills on the job and sustaining behavior change over time.
  • Partners with functional leaders, HRBPs, and Talent teams using a consultative approach to diagnose skill gaps and recommend targeted, skills-based solutions aligned to business priorities.
  • Owns learning projects end to end by leading needs analysis, design, delivery, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement to ensure learning effectiveness and business value.
 
You Have

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 3+ years designing and delivering skills‑based learning, facilitating live and virtual sessions, and partnering with HR and business stakeholders required
  • Consulting, needs assessment, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Instructional design, training delivery, and learning solution development.
  • Project and program execution with strong problem‑solving capability.
  • Measurement, data analysis, and impact evaluation.
  • Effective communication, learning technology use, and cross‑functional collaboration
