Position Details:

We are looking for an Engineer to join the Customer Information engineering team. Customer Information builds foundational product capabilities supporting Grainger's core business functions. You will be focused on building API capabilities and the tooling to support our operations. We're looking for someone excited about developing leading edge products ready to join a collaborative full-stack team.


You Will:

  • You will build foundational capabilities within in the customer domain supporting important operations. Capabilities that are cloud-native, scalable, resilient and available. Have meaningful knowledge of cloud native event-driven microservices-based architectures including operational concerns such as performance, resiliency, observability, monitoring, discovery and routing.
  • Have experience building Microservices using Java and Spring Boot that are performant, and built for scale.
  • Have experience developing Single Page Applications with React.Js employing the micro front-ends architecture.
  • You understand and can implement the 12-Factor App methodology, knowledge of building restful APIs and the challenges with backwards compatibility in a deploy-often environment , understanding of engineering best practices such as TDD, trunk-based development, CI-CD, frequent incremental iterative deployments, pair programming, peer reviews et al.
  • You treat deployments/releases as non-events because you are a disciple of the theory of continuous delivery with a past history of its application in practice.


You Have:

  • 5+ years experience as a Full Stack Engineer.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information technology or Engineering related disciplines, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience working with Java, Spring Boot, Node.js and TypeScript. Experience developing Microservice-based capabilities supporting important operations.
  • Experience with front-end development using a component library (React preferred), understanding of modern JavaScript and web technologies (e.g., HTML, SASS, CSS, JavaScript, Storage APIs, Cookies)
  • Understanding of the Test Pyramid and use of test-driven development.
  • Proficient in Git. Experience with one Continuous Integration tool (GitHub Actions, Circle CI) ,experience with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes. Experience with SQL databases.

Bonus: Experience with AWS(EC2, S3, SQS, SNS, Lambda), CICD tools (GitHub Actions), Kafka, Spring, Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, Elastic Search and Linux.
