Position Details: 

Grainger is looking for an experienced Technical Lead Engineer to support our continually expanding Platform Security Automation team. We are looking for an individual who can solve challenging business problems through technology, engineering, and leadership. You will work with Engineers, Architects, and leaders to develop and design automated / self-service security solutions that empower teams to follow good security practices, create a culture of ownership and accountability, and help create organization wide transparency into our security posture.  

The Platform Engineering Security Automation (SecAuto) team partners closely with Grainger engineering teams to provide security focused, low friction, and self-service, solutions that empower teams to resolve risk 

Relevant industry experience is important in SAST, SCA, Secrets as a Service, Security Engineering, Software Engineering, and DevSecOps Engineering.  Working knowledge in a cloud environment, with an emphasis in Cloud Security is preferred. 

You will be working in a hybrid mode from Virtual or from our Lake Forest, IL or Chicago, IL offices. You will report to Manager of Platform engineering. 

 

You Will: 

  • Architect security, resiliency and quality into Security Automation products and solutions 
  • Work with Product and Engineering Managers to provide feedback on planning product roadmaps and backlog priorities 
  • Lead the team towards continuous improvement and modernization of capabilities 
  • Mentor Engineers and provide technical feedback to help them grow and mature  
  • Partner with the Security Organization to design solutions that automate security 
  • Recommending sensible defaults, guiding team on clean code practices, test coverages in pipeline, and observability/alerting 
  • Continually research current and emerging technologies that will improve Security Automation’s capabilities 
  • Build self-service, frictionless, and reliable solutions for engineers across the company to consume 
  • Conducting technical knowledge sharing sessions with latest technological features and engineering practices 
  • Attend standups, desk checks, tech huddles, and story grooming meetings to provide your guidance and influence 
  • Capture decisions, context, and consequences for design choices (ADR) and create ADRs for all solutions 
  • Analyze opportunities for reducing tech debt 

 

  

 

You Have: 

  • Bachelors' degree in Engineering or Computer Science or Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience 
  • 8+ years of experience with Software engineering, Architecture, Administration, Observability in a large and distributed environment working across multiple teams 
  • Have strong knowledge of cloud native event-driven microservices-based architectures including operational concerns such as performance, resiliency, observability, monitoring, discovery, and routing 
  • 5+ years of experience coding in higher-level languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++), ideally with multiple teams contributing to the code base 
  • 3+ years with implementing DevSecOps solutions that are frictionless and integrate well within teams’ development lifecycles 
  • 3+ years of experience with deploying organization-wide Secrets as a Service  
  • Knowledge of containerization, APIs, and web services 
  • Cloud exposure (AWS/GCP/Azure) from the UI, API and CLI/automation 
  • Experience with implementing infrastructure as code and automation via api or cli 
  • Experience with CI/CD principles and be able to support pipeline issues 
  • Knowledge of common DevOps tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub, or CircleCI. 
  • Experience with Atlassian products such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Bamboo. 

  

Bonus:

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) 
  • Vendor certification or training is expected in cases of established experience. Cloud Certification with AWS/GCP/Azure.
