Compensation
The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $71,800.00 to $119,600.00.

Position Details
The Infrastructure Software Administrator is responsible for providing administration services for a wide range of infrastructure and application software products that enable the Grainger business. These products include, but are not limited to ERP system modules, applications bolted onto or into our ERP systems, middleware products, standalone business applications, database products, infrastructure management tools, and system monitoring tools.
Many of these supported systems are critical to Grainger’s ability to sustain business operations, facilitating the processing of customer orders, management of our supply chain, and the back-end processing necessary to manage and sustain our Corporation. Therefore, not only is the Infrastructure Software Administrator a key resource in maintaining the performance and availability of these required systems, they are further required to enable and support business continuity practices including Disaster Recovery capabilities for all critical system components and processes.
Infrastructure software administration tasks include installation, configuration, license management, access management, upgrading / patching, troubleshooting and tuning of the specific application components. The Infrastructure Software Administrator is accountable for maintaining an environment that is well documented, sustainable, and conforms to all established technology development and implementation processes, enabling the business to service our customers in accordance with established Service Level Objectives and/or customer expectations.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
You Will
- Provide operational insights and alternatives as participants in the planning and architecture processes for any new Grainger infrastructure software component or business application as required by the business.
- Research and resolve current and potential problems with any supported software product residing on any supported server in the Grainger infrastructure in a timely and proactive manner.
- Deliver defined service level capabilities across multiple development and production landscapes to meet customer requirements.
- Maintain and manage the infrastructure software product (installation, configuration, upgrading / patching, troubleshooting and tuning) as needed and/or as required by our software vendors.
- Coordinate application security access as appropriate, consistent with established policies and procedures, meeting audit requirements for SOX and PCI compliance.
- Verify (and assist when necessary) required maintenance is performed on the related operating system software and hardware in a timely and proactive manner.
- Understand and use Unix, Linux, Solaris and Windows-based scripting and programming languages (J2EE, ABAP, VB, .net and Java, etc.) in support tasks and problem solving.
- Identify and implement system improvements as needed.
- Assist Capacity Planning processes in the analysis of trends in system utilization to predict future growth.
- Develop logging and alerting mechanisms for these systems to validate data security and integrity.
- Research new technologies and products as needed.
- Develop innovative solutions to mitigate / minimize emerging challenges within Grainger’s complex ERP systems as required to allow the business to function and strengthen our internal processes.
- Manage system documentation as required to ensure the complete and timely maintenance of all Grainger systems.
- Fully support and utilize all established system management processes and practices to ensure the ongoing integrity of all systems (eg. Change, Problem, Test, and Configuration management).
- Ensure 100% compliance with SOX requirements and assessment targets. Complete SOX testing and action plans, if applicable, within the established due dates. Ensure timely communication of changes to SOX processes and controls to EPS Compliance Manager.
You Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent related experience.
- Minimum of two years experience with Unix, Linux, Solaris, or Windows Application support including SAP, PeopleSoft, or Oracle Application Administration or relevant education.
- Familiarity with computing infrastructures, including Data Security, Help Desk, Operations, Network Computing, Data Base and Application Development.
- Knowledge of Unix, Linux, Solaris, and Windows Operating System fundamentals, system virtualization techniques and products, system design, administration, and scripting languages.
- Knowledge of multiple infrastructure software applications.
- Knowledge of multiple database products (Oracle, SQL, Informix, DB2, MaxDB/SAPDB)
- Ability to effectively communicate and clarify technical issues to software suppliers and to the business representatives.
- An understanding of production environments including the requirement for high availability and team oriented 24x7 support capabilities.
- Must have the ability to multi-task in a very fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem analysis, determination, and resolution skills and techniques.
- Ability to use standard SAP, Unix, Linux, Solaris, and Windows performance tools to analyze and tune system performance.
- Understanding of Object Oriented programming concepts and Relational Database Management systems (Oracle) is required.
- Excellent teamwork, communication (verbal and written) and documentation skills required.
- Ability to be a self-starter and to take initiative in critical situations
- Demonstrated ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Time management skills to balance priorities and deliver assignments on time and within budget.
- Knowledge of application specific languages, especially J2EE, Java, and / or ABAP.
