Position Description

Primary Function

Quality Assurance Manager will have responsibility for managing the Quality Assurance Program for the North America KeepStock Build Centers.  Supervising direct/indirect team members as well as coaching and training our Build Center Specialists on the vending machine’s hardware & software.  This role will directly impact $4-6M inventory within Build Center and partner with our KeepStock Help Desk, Field Team members, and external strategic vending suppliers to further enhance overall quality of Grainger Vending Operations, as a whole.  Primary responsibilities are to provide quality and technical support through testing & troubleshooting of the vending machines hardware and software.  Partnering closely with our Vendors to evaluate vending components, determine root cause, and resolution when quality issues surface.


Principle Duty


  • Manage and continually grow/enhance the Build Center’s North America quality assurance program of vending machines and its components to ensure the physical assets, meet high quality standards.
  • Supervise and provide technical support for 1 to 2 direct and indirect build center contractors/Team Members. Position has the authority to hire, provide performance management and development support to the direct and indirect team members.
  • Prepare quality and performance metrics by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing actionable insights to increase quality and workforce productivity.
  • Primary point of contact for external vendors to ensure vending equipment and its components meet quality standards. Share immediate and month end quality results.  Coordinate and partner with vendors to create action plans, standards, and quality control processes on quality issues or components/process re-design.
  • Customer badge testing lead and quality support for all machines with scanning technology, prior to shipment.  Direct line to support badge escalations from KeepStock Field partners and our customers.
  • Work with Grainger Vending Development Team on technical aspects of vending machine technology by updating, configuring and troubleshooting Vending Firmware, machine software/hardware, and imaging process.
  • Field and Help Desk interaction – support escalated Quality issues in the Field where applicable.  Coordinate vendor support when quality trends are identified and lead the creation / updating of quality control process documentation for vending software / hardware.
  • Improve overall machine quality in both refurbished and new machines.  Implement methods to inspect, test, and evaluate vending machines and components. Influence, coach, and continuously improve build center team members and processes.
  • Develop machine and part evaluation strategies that provide timely, accurate, and detailed technical evaluations of new or existing inventory.  Perform detailed and recorded inspections of machines / products to ensure assessment results meet performance, quality, reliability, and safety standards.
  • Maintain a safe build center environment by understanding, coaching, and enforcing Grainger’s safety, health, and environmental guidelines.


Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus minimum 3-5 years’ experience in vendor management, Quality Assurance, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in critical thinking, decision making, and problem solving to effectively assess issues with both business and technical applications.
  • Proven ability to manage highly complex information and translate into actions.
  • Technical expertise and ability to effectively troubleshoot Secure Vending Machines along with hardware and software components supporting Vending Operations.
  • Candidate must possess strong relationship building and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including advanced Excel and SharePoint skills
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a hands-on approach that emphasizes teamwork, influencing, collaboration, and consensus.
