The Vendor manager will work with  IT Leaders to establish and sustains holistic and trusted relationships with Grainger’s IT Vendors, creating mutual value in a transparent and predictable way that is flexible and scalable over the long term. This role will work closely with IT leaders, Procurement and Legal to ensure the IT vendors are well managed and delivering value. The Vendor Manager is skilled developing effective vendor relationships, coordinating cross functional work, developing data driven insights, and continuous improvement. The role will be responsible for vendor relationship management, risk management, and performance management for collection of I vendors.

The Vendor Manager will be responsible for the following tasks and outcomes:

Key Activities:

  • Manages the relationship between vendors and IT organization. Serves as a primary point of contact for vendor related initiatives and issues.
  • Analyzing vendor performance and identifying performance trends, working with appropriate stakeholders to take corrective action, as necessary, to improve performance expectations.
  • Assess, report and mitigate the risk level of vendors based on financial, contractual and operating concerns.
  • Reviews, monitors and reports on vendor relationships in terms of performance and contractual terms
  • Ensure clear metrics are in place covering vendor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure strong performance management.
  • Maintain and ensure accurate vendor information related to vendor relationships including contract management and financial information.
  • Ensure contracting actions, events and entitlements are communicated to the appropriate teams and stakeholders.
  • Develops reporting and analytics to manage performance standards on existing vendors.
  • Interfaces with Engineers, Project/Product managers, legal team, and vendors to ensure understanding and accomplishment of organizational goals.
  • Establishes common goals between key IT stakeholders and vendors and drives communication between both parties.
  • Communicates with cross functional teams, providing insight into vendor qualifications to support business requirements.
  • Analyzes vendor performance and identify performance trends, take corrective action, as necessary, to improve performance expectations. Define and hold strategic vendors to higher performance standards and drive continuous improvement.


  • Bachelor’s degree in in Computer Science, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field. Or equivalent demonstrated work experience.
  • Typically has 7 years of relevant business/industry work experience including vendor management, procurement, asset management, IT operations.
  • Related industry certification desirable like:
    • Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS)
    • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)
    • Certified Technology Procurement Executive (CTPE)
  • Demonstrated Ability to influence peers and key stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of contract management and negotiation
  • Knowledge of the IT industry and the products and services provided by technology vendors
  • Solid grasp of financial concepts
  • Experience in detailed measurement and analysis of vendor risk and performance.
  • Preferred: Experience as a Vendor Manager


  • Occasional travel to vendor locations and conferences.
