Sr Mgr, Corporate Strategy

Reporting to the Senior Director of Corporate Strategy, the Sr. Manager, Corporate Strategy will be a key partner in developing and refining Grainger’s corporate and business unit strategy, and managing Grainger’s strategic planning process.

 

*This role typically is located in our Lake Forest headquarters, but due to COVID-19 will be fully virtual until further notice.  Once this office location has a return to work plan, the team member will be required to be on-site.

 

This individual will work closely with strategy team members, C-suite executives, business unit leaders, and functional experts to help identify, frame, and analyze organizational strategy problems and opportunities. They will work as an ‘internal consultant’ on strategic initiatives affecting the organization, helping to identify critical customer, competitive and macroeconomic trends impacting the business. This role will work closely with leaders across the organization on decisions that help improve our market share, profitability and competitive advantage in a rapidly changing industry.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Strategic planning –  lead / co-ordinate Grainger’s corporate strategic planning process
  • Key strategic questions – develop unbiased point-of-view on the critical issues facing our business at both the corporate or business unit level
  • Internal consulting – engage with P&L’s or functional areas on high impact strategy projects
  • External perspective – bring relevant competitor and market perspective to internal leaders
  • Support executive team on regular cadence of internal or external communications

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

 

  • MBA from tier 1 business school
  • 2-5 years of post-MBA experience at a tier-1 strategy consulting firm (e.g. Bain, BCG, McKinsey)
  • World-class strategic and analytical capabilities
  • Demonstrated comfort with ambiguity
  • Comfort with a hypothesis driven approach to problem solving
  • Ability to assimilate data and information, derive insights, and tailor a “story” relevant to diverse audiences
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to structure, write and deliver presentations to senior management
  • Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills
