Position Description

Primary Function

 

As part of Grainger’s Global Internal Audit Team (IA), the Senior Data Analytics Auditors will primarily be responsible for conducting data analytics (DA) audit work to more efficiently audit key controls


Principle Duty

 

The Senior DA Auditor will work within the general guidelines provided by the VP Internal Audit in connection with Internal Audit’s (IA) DA, Continuous Monitoring (CM) and Continuous Auditing (CA) strategy.

The role’s key duties and responsibilities are as follows:
 

1. DA

 

  • Independently conduct standalone DA audits utilizing standard audit methodology
  • Partner with IA team members on process audits to identify and conduct DA for those audits

 

2. CM/CA

 

  • Conduct CM work, including quarterly reporting, as aligned with manager and in conjunction with the strategy guidelines
  • Conduct CA work following standard audit methodology, as aligned with manager and in conjunction with the strategy guidelines

 

3. General

 

  • Participate in IA continuous improvement projects, as applicable
  • Research DA/CM/CA tools and approaches, and recommend any changes to current environment
  • Build relationships with other BI team members throughout the organization to share best practices and leverage other useful technology
  • Provide input into audit plan and quarterly re-assessment of standalone DA audits, CM and CA efforts
  • Share data analysis best practices with others on the team and market the impact analytics has made on audit results

 

Position Requirements:

Education/Certifications:

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related degree is required. 
  2. Professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal  Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) is a plus.
  3. Masters degree or other relevant certification is a plus.


 
Experience: 

 

  1. Five-year plus audit, internal controls or related work experience within a large publicly- traded company or public accounting is required.
  2. Theoretical and practical knowledge of processes, risks and internal controls and the application of audit practices (i.e., COSO, COBIT) to these areas is required.
  3. Robust project management skills; experience working with multi-project management is required.
  4. Strong knowledge of ERP systems (i.e. SAP or comparable large ERP systems), PC proficiency in MSOffice (Excel, Word, etc.) and data analytics tools is required.
  5. Expertise in data analytics and big data is required.
  6. Experience in industries analogous to Grainger’s is a plus.

  4. Excellent understanding of internal controls.
  5. Strong business acumen & analytical skills with attention to detail.
  6. Ability to leverage business systems (SAP, Business Objects) and tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Tableau, etc.) to support DA execution and measurement of results.
  7. Strong understanding of data extraction tools and techniques.
  8. Experience with robust DA tools
