Position Description


Primary Function
 

Risk Management oversees the creation, production, and management of key metrics, dashboards, databases, and tools used to assess risk appetite and measure insurance program performance. The primary role of this position is to identify systemic solutions that solve critical financial and business needs for Risk Management.


The primary role of this position is to lead the design and strategy for analytics, reporting, and process improvement responsible for providing critical insights and business intelligence around Grainger’s risk profile and claim portfolio. Responsible for the creation, standardization, and delivery of data reports and predictive analysis around our claims, risk appetite, and insurance programs.   Designs & delivers solutions to translate operating metrics into insights that inform strategies, business decisions and recommendations. Considered the Subject-matter-expert to establish, communicate, and execute a clear measurement strategy for Risk Management, ensuring it evolves over time to reflect the changing needs of the business. Partners with Legal, EHS, HR, and Accounting to rationalize and standardize a portfolio of reporting for both internal and external usage.


Principle Duty

 

  • Leverage analytics and business judgment to identify, prioritize and solve complex risk problems with clear and concise recommendations to leadership.
  • Provide reporting on key operational and strategic dashboard metrics across all areas of risk.
  • Function as a liaison working with stakeholders to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies and information systems.
  • Provide proactive value-added analysis, insights and recommendations that helps leaders establish priorities and set direction, aligning with overall company and department objectives.
  • Understand business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements. Recommends and implements solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals. 
  • Ability to identify the tasks, knowledge, and techniques required to determine and assess proposed solutions to business problems. 
  • System Development –Review the current stated solutions used by Risk Management and key business partners, identify issues, define the requirements, and suggest best possible solutions, in addition to configuration development and testing.
  • Continuous Improvement –Review current manual or workflow activities and tasks performed by people, functional areas, and systems, which are designed to achieve a specific outcome, while assuring data quality/integrity.
  • Understands relationships, information exchanges/handoffs, procedures, policies, and observations of work performed to achieve specific outcomes.  Assures alignment for continuous improvement within the systems landscape.
  • Quickly build relationships with key business partners to provide solutions that will drive strategy and organizational vision to Risk Management.
  • Provide recommendations and lead discussions with leadership to understand business gaps in order to provide analytical solutions and implementation plans that include a systemic component to reduce time spent on data mining or validating the integrity of data. 
  • Document procedures and processes appropriately to build a library of solutions that can be leveraged in the future.
  • Understand and manage the end to end claim lifecycle.  Look to implement process improvements where available.
  • Perform modeling to assess organizational vulnerabilities, redundancy, and mitigation capabilities.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Must be technologically savvy in order to drive effective means of analyzing and reporting critical business information.
  • Team-oriented and be able to collaborate effectively in department and cross-departmental efforts.
  • Preference will be shown to those with experience in salesforce.com/Apex/SOQL or SQL.
  • Broad business knowledge and organizational awareness.
  • Proven analytic and quantitative decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain difficult concepts in simple terms.
  • The ability to influence decision-making processes without having specific authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work independently with little oversight.
