Position Details:


The Strategy team works to define and set the multi-year long term Global Supply Chain strategy to ensure Grainger’s DCs, Branches, and Customer Experience can meet the long-term needs of the business.  The Senior Analyst, Global Supply Chain Strategy plays a key role in developing and supporting this strategic vision by partnering with multiple internal and external functions to gather inputs, criteria, and desired outcomes to deliver analytics and recommendations used to make long term investment decisions and service changes.


You will support the Global Supply Chain & Customer Experience strategic planning process to prioritize new functionality in the supply chain to grow sales, improve service, or decrease cost.  Also, you will support development of Senior Leadership and Executive level communications.  Key stakeholders include Supply Chain functional organizations, Corporate Strategy, Finance, Real Estate as well as customer-facing organizations to ensure analytics combined with business context guide decisions that support a cohesive strategy.


You will report to the Sr Manager, Global Supply Chain Strategy.  This role is based in Lake Forest, IL but can be remote with up to 20% travel.



You Will:


  • Analysis to identify the appropriate standard service levels by market
  • Identify, build, and maintain a data repository of key market level data points leveraged for strategy analysis; build process to keep data fresh
  • Perform analysis and assess key business/customer trends that could impact supply chain forecasts and North America planning
  • Support early-stage supply chain strategy ideas that are prioritized during the strategy planning process, using rigorous analytics and proof of concept pilots to determine potential application to the business.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research with internal and external stakeholders to assess supply chain technology, capabilities, and competitive trends
  • Draft and create white papers on supply chain strategy related topics pertinent to the business
  • Establish effective relationships with key internal partners across the business
  • Support the organization, monitoring, and tracking of the North America strategy planning process
  • Support the development of presentation materials by providing key inputs as well as slide building for leadership updates



You Have:


  • Bachelor degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Finance or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience in more than one of the following areas: network modeling, transportation, distribution operations, inventory planning, or supply chain/business analytics is preferred
  • Leverages financial, quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions
  • Experience working with large datasets (up to 100M lines). Demonstrated success at summarizing, identifying patterns and connecting data to drive business results
  • Proficiency with tools and techniques needed to efficiently cleanse and summarize data (SQL, Teradata, Tableau, PowerBI, Excel) with ability to navigate data through script writing and data visualization
  • Demonstrated creative and strategic thinking with ability to self-direct and effectively manage time in order meet deliverables and deadlines in a dynamic, high change environment
  • Ability to creatively and logically solve challenges and navigate roadblocks
  • Comfort developing structure and leading projects that are not well defined with demonstrated experience in collaborating with and managing a wide variety of stakeholders to deliver business results
