In partnership with the Grainger Privacy Office, this role will take primary responsibility managing and documenting Grainger’s Global Privacy Program deployments and operations. This role will include analyzing business initiatives to report on privacy risk by, monitoring and responding to data subject requests, managing key privacy program projects (e.g. California Privacy Rights Act readiness), serving as the Global Compliance Team’s subject matter expert on key technology including OneTrust Privacy Platform, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, and engaging cross-functional team members via training and awareness activities to help foster a global culture of privacy compliance.  The Manager, Privacy will also provide subject matter expertise on privacy to help business partners incorporate privacy-by-design into their business processes, critical projects and initiatives.


Manager of Global Privacy Program Operations

    • Oversees privacy impact assessment process to determine and document areas of privacy risk to the organization, as well as identify privacy controls. Monitors control implementation with business owners. This includes privacy impact assessments which may arise out of the Vendor Management, IT Organization, or Human Resource Organization’s operations.
    • Manages Data Subject Request Playbook operations. This includes reviewing, analyzing, and responding to requests as well as coordinating the response process with cross functional stakeholders and maintaining / reporting on metrics.
    • Primarily responsible for the OneTrust Privacy Platform with respect to privacy operations. Serves as subject matter expert to facilitate integrations with other cross-functional processes and technical environments.
    • As needed, provides support during security incident response, including breach response coordination with external vendors and internal stakeholders.
    • Manages Privacy Office efforts related to the standardization, implementation and management of Grainger’s privacy related policies, charter documentation, principles, standards and processes.
    • Maintains and enhances the Privacy Risk Register and Privacy Metrics / KPI reporting.

Privacy Culture Builder and Change Leader

    • Leads the Privacy Champion network operations in the US, Canada, Mexico, and other markets as needed.  Serves as a primary point of contact to engage Privacy Champions in the deployment of key privacy initiatives within their business areas.
    • Partners with cross functional business partners to drive engaging team member privacy training and awareness activities.
    • Develops multimedia job aids to expedite cross-functional privacy learning curves.
    • Leads execution of internal and external communications and process flow documentation regarding privacy, including data subject access request processes, data subject request portal, and designated privacy mailboxes.
    • Develops multimedia training materials and updates existing library to link cross-functional stakeholders around the world with Grainger’s privacy culture. Maintains and leverages learning portals on company intranet sites (including SharePoint, Teams, Confluence, etc.).


Privacy Office and Compliance Team Member


    • Supports Grainger’s broader compliance team with respect to annual team goals and activities.
    • Monitors and researches applicable privacy laws, regulations, enforcement activity, markets behavior and benchmarking in connection with Grainger’s operations.
    • Responsible for managing Privacy consultants as needed on ad hoc projects.
    • Responsible for keeping the Director, Privacy fully up-to-date on issues and matters regarding privacy operations, projects, and initiatives.
    • Manages day-to-day operations of the Privacy Office including implementing and coordinating privacy program projects and initiatives.


Preferred Experience and Qualifications

    • Familiarity with data privacy requirements (e.g. General Data Protection Regulation; California Consumer Privacy Act).
    • Demonstrated experience assessing risk and identifying organizational controls. Compliance or auditing experience advantageous.
    • Familiarity with digital marketing, vendor management, or HR technologies advantageous.
    • Academic degree in privacy or related field and/or professional certification strongly desirable. Examples of relevant professional certifications include any International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) certification (e.g. CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPP/C, CIPM, or CIPT), CCEP, CISSP, PMP or similar compliance, information security, legal, project management.
