Position Details



You will provide outstanding service – including understanding the transportation landscape and building delivery value added services that beat the competition. We ask that you have close working relationships with the VP and Director level in Distribution Center operations, Sales, Branch Services, Inventory Planning, GTG, and Network Design.

Oversee implementation of large-scale projects within Grainger's dedicated offering and serves as an expert around dedicated transportation. You will report to the Director of Transportation Operations.




Essential activities for this role are: designing and implementing new dedicated markets, conceptualizing and deploying design or systems projects across current fleets, and accountability for meeting project timelines, freight spend, and fleet efficiencies.


You will manage a team that deploys large projects and meets project timelines, freight spend, and fleet efficiencies.


  • Complete larger scale projects while working with important partners including launching new markets, major systems and process updates.
  • Provide insights to partners on fleet planning practices, performance results and goals.
  • Evaluate and evolve Grainger's dedicated fleet to improve the customer experience while optimizing expenditures.
  • Consult with the Transportation and Supply Chain leadership teams to Identify projects based on the evolution of the company and department.
  • Provide expertise and insights on corporate improvement plans.
  • Coach team members to ensure talent makeup of team.
  • Build a talent pipeline that balances the current needs of the team and the anticipated evolution of the role and department
  • Onboard new team members as they join the department or Grainger
  • Provide frequent and relevant feedback
  • Support team members in their development goals to promote future career progression within Grainger
  • Grow future leaders within Grainger's Supply Chain organization



Education & Experience

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years managing "in-house" private fleets of varying size that handle customer deliveries.
  • Proficient in the use of industry recognized routing and optimization software packages.
  • Experience managing vehicle maintenance program.
  • Understanding of DOT requirements for licensing, insurance and branding, and requirements for hazardous materials handling.
  • 30-40% travel.
