Position Details:


The Director, Merchandising and Supplier Management (MSM) Operations partners with multiple leaders to determine the long-term vision to support Merchandising, Supplier Management, and Sales teams. You will collaborate on developing the strategy to build that vision, set the road map and annual goals that support the strategy, and work with important partners and functional leaders to achieve those goals. You will ensure communication to all partners is consistent and change management promotes a smooth transformation. You will have 2 Sr. Managers as direct reports that lead 4 Managers and 27 team members. You will report to the Sr Director of Operations, Merchandising & Supplier Management.



You Will:

  • Establish long-term vision to build outstanding North American operations for 4 essential operations teams to improve the effectiveness of the partners, increase improvement from Operations, and create operational synergies amongst teams in scope
  • Partner with and lead Sr. Managers to develop the strategy, operating models, and execution road map to support the long term vision
  • Develop partner relationships at multiple levels of the organization to gain agreement on strategy
  • Establish measurements governing the operations, set up the appropriate reporting structure to support it, and track progress to important partners and team members
  • Use analytics to identify opportunities to further improve the effectiveness of the end-to-end process and initiate projects to capture opportunities
  • Guide relevant enterprise-level programs and connect to improve on team and Grainger goals and strategy
  • Develop change management plans to ensure changes are well understood, and the leader, team  member, and partner experience is managed
  • Lead leaders in the areas of: vision definition and strategy development, end-to-end understanding of the customer and business, continuous improvement with a commercial lens, and application of technology to standardize, scale, and simplify operations, change management and communication, and team member development and engagement


You Have:


  • BS/BA required
  • 7–10 years experience in developing operational strategy, and leading leaders and teams through transformation execution and continuous improvement projects
  • Use an end-to-end understanding of commercial value creation for the customer and the business in developing an Operations vision for the future
  • Take a long-term view; identify risks & opportunities; develop plans to achieve company and department goals; set priorities
  • Take ownership; set a direction and create a plan
  • End-to-end thinking of a system by examining the linkages and interactions between all components
  • Introduce change, and bring partners through the change management curve. Influence and align leaders, team members, partners to achieve targets
  • Connect at all levels of the organization; take and distill complex information into a clear and appropriate messaging
  • Develop important partnerships at all levels to pursue goals
  • Knowledge and application of business strategies; evaluate costs/benefits of varying options; good financial skills
  • Experience in sales, supply chain, product or supplier management, merchandising, or procurement as a direct line manager or management consultant
