The Director, Global Logistics and Compliance leads global logistics design, procurement, operations and administration of transportation for Grainger Global Export, Grainger Global Sourcing import, Grainger Canada, and Grainger Mexico.  Additionally, this leader is responsible for leading the compliance operations team in the execution of Grainger’s Global Trade Compliance program for import, export, and North America cross border product moves. This role is responsible for building the strategy, developing the work flow/processes and building/hiring the team.

 

  • Responsible for the design, procurement, and execution of all transportation moves for Grainger Canada and Grainger Mexico Transportation
  • Responsible for all transportation and import clearance activities into the United States, Grainger’s Latin America businesses and Grainger Canada.
  • Responsible for all US Export transportation and daily export compliance activities
  • Grainger enterprise leader on all global logistical and trade compliance issues, with direct consultation to Grainger Mexico, Global Export and Grainger Canada leadership.
  • Responsible for the strategy and execution of key global 3PL relationships including customs classification services, brokerage for North America, and consolidation centers in the US, China and Taiwan.
  • Design and facilitate cross border movements from the U.S. to Grainger Mexico and Canada; work in conjunction with the U.S. supply chain, and customs broker to drive cost reduction and lead time improvements. 
  • Negotiate and manage third party logistics and carrier contracts, agreements and relationships ensuring international supply chain service levels and cost controls
  • Lead the annual Ocean transportation bid for Grainger Enterprise
  • Develop and implement processes and programs to ensure compliance with government agencies regulating import, export, transportation and security.
  • Lead the strategy of the Global Trade Compliance Program.
  • Collaborate regularly with Supply Chain leadership and Sales leadership across North America to ensure organizational objectives are supported with desired levels of carrier performance
  • Responsible for all talent management activities for the team resulting in a diverse workforce that receives coaching and development on a consistent basis. 

 

Preferred Education & Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain or related field.  MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of supply chain experience, with 7+ years of experience within international logistics and +5 years of experience in a large people leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of the transportation market, cross border transportation, and compliance markets.
  • Advanced business and financial acumen as evidenced by understanding of complex financial / transportation models and ability to diagnose and identify root cause.
  • Comprehensive understanding of logistics cost models, network modeling, transportation management system, service metrics, and cost per unit metrics.
  • Experience with broad, multi-mode carrier base including parcel, LTL, truckload, inter-modal, forwarding, fleet, etc.
  • Aptitude for creatively solving problems and implementing sustainable change.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent presentation and written communications skills.
