Compensation
The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $163,800.00 – $273,000.00. This role is eligible for an incentive target of up to 25 or , based on the achievement of individual and company performance objectives in accordance with the current terms of the incentive program which are subject to change.

Position Details:
As the Search Director, you will own Grainger.com’s end-to end, customer-facing search experience: from the search bar and query understanding to how results are ranked, displayed, and organized to help customers quickly find and confident select the right products.
You will own the Search vertical and define the strategy, vision, and roadmap for Search at Grainger. You will lead the transformation of our search UX by improving how customers initiate searches, interpret results, and navigate product sets across Grainger’s catalog. You will leverage AI/ML innovations in ranking, vector search, and LLM-enabled relevance to deliver fast and intent-aware results.
You’ll partner across engineering, design, AI/ML, analytics, and merchandising to deliver scalable search experiences that help customers efficiently discover products and solutions.
This role requires a product leader who combines strong customer empathy and UX instincts with AI/ML technical depth, analytical rigor, and operational excellence.
You will communicate a clear vision for the future of search at Grainger and confidently lead product reviews with senior leadership, connecting strategy, roadmaps, and experimentation to measurable business outcomes.
You will report to the Group Product Manager. This is a hybrid role in Chicago, IL and is open to remote candidates with occasional travel to Chicago.
You Will:

Lead a team of 3 Sr. Product Managers and 2 Associate Product Managers to build impactful products. Be passionate about developing the team, mentoring others, and elevating the product organization.

Define product strategy, OKRs, roadmaps, and detailed product requirements through effective stakeholder alignment, customer obsession, and strong cross-functional collaboration.

Be comfortable defining both long-term strategy and short-term plans to achieve product vision, anticipating future trends and challenges.

Ensure flawless execution across the product life cycle from concept to launch, driving the team to evolve and scale best practices so we continue to improve.

Deliver well-orchestrated and timely releases, while managing risk, appropriately escalating issues, balancing tradeoffs, and clearly communicating up, down, and across.

Own leadership product reviews and strong, clear strategic communication, with compelling visuals and powerful data-driven storytelling.

Build an end-to-end understanding of the industrial distribution business. Be a passionate advocate for the customer. Be a subject matter expert on competitors, market and industry trends, and products.
You Have:

BS/BA degree in computer science, engineering, science, math, or related field. MS or MBA.

10+ years of progressive leadership in product management with a track record of driving high-performing teams and building impactful products

Experience managing a product management team.

Experience building B2B products.

Experience managing a product or product line P&L.

Ideally have expertise within industrial distribution.
