Position Details:

Reporting to the Manager of Facilities and Design Standards the Designer of Workplace Interiors will participate as a team member and help with project design issues, including creative and concept development phases. You will participate in all phases of projects from programming, schematic design and design development, construction documents and furniture specification. You will manage electronic drawing files and maintain the designated electronic file system through project life cycles.

You will perform MAC (move, add, change) related tasks for the Corporate Real Estate team and own process guidelines and training for all MAC Coordinators throughout Grainger. You will be a MAC project management leader and coordinator managing responsibility for the accurate documentation and completion of space assignments. You will work independently and have authority to develop solutions to ensure the daily work can be completed promptly.

You Will:

  • Develop creative design concepts and space plans that fulfill requirements and conform to applicable building codes and ADA requirements.
  • Ensure spaces meet requirements, align with budgets, schedules, and by management of teams involvement
  • Schedule and approve moves for important corporate locations using Space Management tools.
  • Keep track of project tasks, schedules and status.
  • New hire placement - identifies an acceptable location for the new hire; coordinate with internal partners to ensure the space is ready for the new hire before the start date; update Grainger's facilities space management software system with seat assignment.
  • Move requests - supports all moves from individuals up to large group move projects working with business leaders to understand parameters of the request, identifies locations that can accommodate changes and schedules / coordinates with internal partners to provide a seamless move to end-users
  • Support exit activity to ensure that Grainger's facilities space management software system documentation is accurate.
  • Seek ways to improve the efficiency and visibility of work to support team member experience through the MAC process
  • Manage Current drawing sets and create a drawing file template - Create Template title blocks, Establish Standard layer properties, standard annotation styles, plot styles (pen assignments), Assure current drawing sets have corresponding external references
  • Perform different drafting tasks in AutoCAD such as: Apply layer computer-aided design standards to existing drawings, re-numbering, updating floor plans with furniture, electrical and data information
  • Contribute to CRES space strategy by developing process guidelines and escalation process for space requests involving space use, requests for changes to existing space
  • Use data and reporting to empower fact-based discussions on space use, support reporting on space use and capacity
  • Prepare and administer training of Grainger's facilities space management software system, ensure consistency and partner satisfaction by managing team site and broad-based communications

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Interior Design
  • 1+ years of experience in related field
  • Experience space planning with a holistic view of the project intent and overall corporate goals
  • The ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
