Position Details:

The Customer Information (CI) Data Engineer II works across Grainger to bring customer information to life. Support the end-to-end realization of business objectives enables CI Data Engineer II to support Grainger's growth strategies, analytical approaches, technical implementations, and standardized processes. Working with technology, sales and marketing strategy teams while garnering support from Customer Information teams, CI Data Engineer II will provide the highest impact customer information on a POC and production scale. By making relevant customer information available, we help Grainger market, sell, and find the best products and solutions that meet the needs of our customers.


You Will:

  • Collaborate with business teams to identify high impact opportunities to transform the way Grainger gets things done with differentiated data about customers.
  • Analyze data usage patterns and business processes to design accurate and actionable views that represent our data
  • Configure API and data service calls for internal and 3rd party technology platforms
  • Write and publish scripts that execute routine scheduled data processes
  • Aggregate data from different sources ensuring accurate transformation
  • Present content that educates Grainger team members across the business on B2B customer information core concepts, entities, and relationships.
  • Perform tasks and own responsibilities of the Data Engineer I role


You Have:

  • 3 or more years post-undergraduate experience
  • Bachelor's degree is required, ideally in a STEM field.
  • Will consider someone with a non-technical degree who has compelling quantitative experience
  • Experience with ETL tools, SQL, Python, or software engineering is a required



  • Execute structured data management approaches
  • Analytical skills to observe data trends, infer ramifications, and make improvements
  • A history of adopting new technology over time to expand their toolkit
  • An understanding of the US MRO market and customer segments
  • Technical and analytical proficiency is required; experience with SQL and R/Python for ETL
  • Experience with Circle CI, Docker, data warehousing, and star schemas
