Position Details:

The Data Analyst (Inventory/Classification) identifies, classifying, analyzing and inventory our data, contributing to better planning. You will establish a process to identify existing, and when new applications are deployed for both Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and non-PII. A schedule will be established to provide periodic audits of existing work. You will include management of all classified data in an appropriate inventory tool and use of a data scanner (e.g. IBM Infosphere / OneTrust). Applications included will be both Grainger Technology Group (GTG) owned and non-GTG (i.e. Business) owned and will require work with documented application business owners and determine approach to maintain the inventory. Additional responsibilities include supporting appropriate processes that rely on proper data classification, such as ensuring updates to the CCPA playbook at the GCC to include any newly added applications, and maintaining documentation that conveys the procedures for keeping PII inventory active (e.g. Confluence site). The Data Analyst excels at turning information into insight and knows how this knowledge supports and enables important decisions and business processes.

You will report to Sr Manager of Data Management and Governance and will work in our Lake Forest or Chicago offices after the Covid restrictions are lifted.

You Will:

  • Be a GTG data expert and support operational processes from a data perspective, ensuring data identification, classification and inventory standards are met.
  • Daily activities include assisting with definition of objects/KPIs by performing research within source systems and working with others to provide SQL queries associated with business metrics.
  • Lead and work with a team of dedicated business resources to ensure data is inventoried and classified properly, update business processes with this information and schedule update meetings.
  • Support all aspects of data inventory, classification measurement, monitoring, and reporting metrics for those data quality dimensions identified as important to support business defined goals.
  • Manage appropriate data profiling and inventory tools (e.g. IBM Infosphere and OneTrust) to provide ongoing maintenance of data inventory and proper classifications.
  • Keep up-to-date and recommend implementations of industry best practices.
  • You will partner with many internal Our teams, such as Finance, Accounting, Audit, Sales, Branch Operations, Supply Chain and occasional vendors that provide data technologies to Grainger.
  • Familiarity with privacy related legislation (ex. CCPA / GDPR / CPRA )
  • Familiarity with Personally Identifiable Information (PII) identification
  • Familiarity with DB access controls and common security risks


 

You Have:

  • 3+ years of industry-related experience.
  • University bachelor's degree in Computer or Information Science /Engineering / Business or equivalent.
  • Experience and working knowledge of data inventory and profiling applications such as IBM Infosphere (IGC and Information Analyzer) and OneTrust.
  • Experience in requirements gathering, data structure, validations, data quality, access, security, data cleansing and improve processes for data standardization.
  • Conduct analysis on multiple data sets to identify and then promote business process improvements.
  • Experience with SAP, Oracle, Teradata, Snowflake is ideal.
  • Broad experience with BI technologies including ETL, Data Mining, and Dashboards.
  • Experience designing data warehouses and cubes.
  • Knowledge of working in an Agile Methodology, Bitbucket ,GIT BASH ,Visual Studio Code ,Circle CI,DBT and Jira
