Compensation

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $101,300.00  to $168,900.00.

Position Details:

The Claims Manager - GUS oversees the domestic and international claims programs across workers' compensation, property, casualty, cyber, and management liability lines. The role drives timely and effective claims resolution, ensuring data integrity, managing claim reserves and financial reporting, and collaborating across internal and external partners to improve outcomes and reduce total cost of risk. The manager serves as the primary liaison with third-party administrators (TPAs), insurers, defense counsel, and internal business partners, leveraging analytics and trend data to drive accountability and operational excellence. The role also includes recurring captive insurance responsibilities such as claim funding, loss reserving, and quarterly reporting.

You Will:

  • Directs Grainger’s workers’ compensation program from injury reporting through resolution; manages TPA performance via audits, claim reviews, and key metrics to ensure compliance and cost control.
  • Partners with HR and EHS to improve injury management, return-to-work, and nurse triage processes; drives initiatives that shorten claim duration, reduce costs, and limit litigation.
  • Manages property, liability, and auto claims to secure coverage and recover losses; coordinates investigations and pursues subrogation with Facilities, Supply Chain, and Legal.
  • Supports major loss events through coordinated response and root-cause analysis; applies lessons learned to strengthen risk management.
  • Oversees captive insurance funding, reserving, and forecasting with Treasury, Accounting, and FP&A; prepares reports, reconciles balances, supports audits, and analyzes claims to guide budgeting and strategy.
  • Manages litigated claims with external counsel to achieve efficient resolution and control legal spend; standardizes handling practices and tracks trends to inform prevention efforts.
  • Maintains and improves claim databases and dashboards to monitor KPIs; uses analytics to identify risks, recommend mitigation, and ensure transparency through reporting.
  • Implements process improvements to streamline claims handling; collaborates with teams and vendors to embed risk awareness and early intervention, and represents Grainger in insurer reviews and industry benchmarking.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree risk management, finance, or business administration required
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in claims management with emphasis on workers’ compensation and casualty claims required
  • 5+ years with self-insured and captive programs preferred
  • Strong understanding of claim litigation, reserving, and financial reporting.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage external vendors.
  • Associate in Claims-American Institute for Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (AICPU) preferred
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) preferred
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) preferred
