Grainger is looking for an experienced Business Analyst, with an operational focus, to work with business and IT stakeholders to identify and define needs and issues, document requirements, and solve problems using fact-based analysis. Analysts provide recommendations based on their investigation, and help Grainger respond to business-critical issues, concerns and requests. They have strong quantitative and analytical skills that allow them to quickly make sense of multiple data sources and present synthesized facts and data in insightful and compelling ways. Analysts must be aware of the technology and business impacts of their insights and recommendations.
This Business Analysts will be responsible for: research and analysis, problem management and resolution, creating reports, documentation, testing and training materials. Analysts are responsible for breaking down complex ideas and issues, identifying insights and communicating them to a wide audience through presentations and visualizations.

Job duties and responsibilities.  The operational Business Analyst is responsible for helping business partners resolve incidents, completing requests, trend analysis, implementing continuous improvement activities for their process areas and guiding or training their teams through technical issues. They will coordinate and communication with various IT teams for respective issue resolution. The Business Analyst provides general analytical support across the organization and can understand and articulate key business processes, business drivers, functionality, and requirements. They will assist in the physical design for production issues, ensuring to update functional requirements, use cases / user stories, assist with functional configuration, user testing and user training.

Operations Analyst III responsibilities include:

  • Business Process Modeling – Able to model and communicate complex processes within a business unit
  • Business Value Articulation – Able to prioritize stories to maximize return on investment. Shares BV with teams and stakeholders
  • End User Training Materials – Updates and maintains existing training materials
    • Creates artifacts and delivers data-driven recommendations easily digestible by business and technology partners
  • Knowledge Transition – Performs the transition of knowledge between Grainger’s three levels of support
  • Research & Analysis – Conducts industry and internal research and analysis
  • Problem Solving - Assists in investigating and recommending options for solutions
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate operational needs, identifies alternative solutions and makes recommendations to leverage new or existing IT components including automation
  • Works directly with GTG support owners to apply IT and business knowledge with experience to formulate IT solutions for operational problems
  • Works across multiple GTG teams and functional areas to standardize operation processes and reporting (i.e., performance reporting, ITSM processes)
  • Manages and works with contracted partners; reports on and analyzes data and reporting to ensure all contractual SLAs and expected measures are met or exceeded
  • Communications – Develops and delivers written and verbal communication materials
  • Writes and validates acceptance criteria within area of expertise. Grooms and maintains user stories
  • Project Planning - Plans, designs and implements processes, to support planned and unplanned initiatives and projects
  • Assists with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validations including, but not limited to, defining test plans, creating, and executing test cases, identifying expected results, analyzing system test results and troubleshooting defects


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent related experience
  • Experience with incident management systems and agile related tools, reporting, and project management (ServiceNow, SharePoint, Jira)
  • Experience in automation solutions; Work Soft, UFT Pro, SQL, ABAP preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience in business or operational analysis, trending analysis and process improvement
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates
  • Analytical skills and ability to synthesize multiple types and sources of information into action.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and learn new concepts quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and consult (providing options with pros, cons and risks) while providing thought leadership in solving business processes and/or technical problems based on the audience
  • Proven team player and team builder
  • Strong ownership, accountability, and attention to detail in all work efforts
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with aggressive deadlines and multiple priorities
