Position Details:

As a member of Grainger's Controllership team, you will manage accounting, reporting and financial analysis for Employee Compensation and Benefits. You will work closely with professionals within finance, HR and other functions to drive management insights, compliance and cross-functional collaboration. You will report to Director, Controllership. The location will be hybrid and work in in Lake Forest, IL 2-3 days per week.

You Will:

  • Develop and manage 1-2 direct reports; manage contractor and consultant relationships; build partnerships with global accounting, finance and other departments
  • Manage the accounting close and reporting processes for Employee Compensation and Benefits; ensure that account reconciliations, accounting entries and control activities are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Analyze the balance sheet and income statement accounts to identify trends and explain results; provide decision support to management and various departments, including ad hoc reporting and analysis.
  • Develop the annual plan and interim forecast of benefit costs in partnership with HR, Corporate FP&A and external consultant; support information gathering and assumption development for actuarial valuations.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects to ensure efficient execution of process changes and new initiatives that impact payroll and employee benefits.
  • Lead external reporting for employee benefit plans under US GAAP; research technical accounting guidance and assess any accounting and reporting implications

You Have:

  • 5 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including technical accounting research and knowledge of US GAAP
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Experience streamlining workflows and processes; demonstrated ability to develop strategic partnerships and action plans
  • Experience with complex analytics and high quality of deliverables
  • A track record of delivering a high quality of work
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (can perform complex functions)
  • Preferred: CPA; proficiency in SAP, BPC or Blackline
