Position Details:

The Software Engineer is a hands-on configuration/development team member and develops software solutions to help Grainger grow as a business. This position is ideal for someone who is experienced and passionate about software configuration/development, is interested in being a part of a great development culture, and who wants to create solutions that are going to help our customers. Our teams will evolve as business demands shift, so we are looking for individuals that can be versatile and are willing to take on challenging work as we continue to find creative ways to solve issues for our customers.

You Will:

  • Use your knowledge to improve and transform complex concepts into clean, simple solutions.
  • Write well-documented, maintainable, and performing code, with appropriate test coverage.
  • Investigate and resolve application issues, bottlenecks and inefficiencies using our DevOps tools.
  • Conduct, and evaluate the results of unit and integration tests.
  • Conduct and participate in code reviews that span multiple languages and applications.
  • Support production deployments during go live.
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers on your team.
  • Manage team's success and help sustain a collaborative work environment.
  • Find opportunities to improve your team, and work with other development leads to guide consistency.
  • Develop prototypes and POCs to demonstrate new ideas or illustrate the use of new technologies.
  • Participate in Agile Ceremonies to provide feedback and communicate issues/blockers and communicate project status
  • Document application work instructions and training materials
  • Provide periodic classroom training on supported systems and changes to systems
  • Provide day-to-day application support to key users
  • Troubleshoot technical application and data issues and engage with SAP or third-party suppliers for higher levels of support
  • Triage of support tickets and follow up with end users
  • Develop functional specifications based on business requirements
  • Implement configuration changes in SAP
  • Develop high level design and coordinate with development teams
  • Perform functional, end-to-end, regression, and smoke testing

 

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a degree in a comparable field.
  • 2+ years in SAP ABAP development/configuration, with a concentration in SAP Supply Chain Management. The experience should include 2+ years of ABAP development/configuration for the SAP SCM functional area. Experience in reports, interfaces, conversions, and enhancements is required.
  • Experience within SAP Supply Chain Management configuring SAP SCM systems like Warehouse Management Systems, Inventory Planning Systems, Transportation Systems, development of programs and enhancements to integrate SAP solutions with non-SAP applications
  • Experience with SAP APO preferred with an understanding of Core Interface (CIF)
  • Functional domain expertise in production planning, manufacturing, materials management and/or engineering
  • Experience with complex discrete make-to-order manufacturing environment
  • Worked on product configuration technology
  • Experience preparing functional design documents and developing test cases
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to translate business processes or concepts into technical requirements
  • Strong problem-solving skills and are a self-starter
  • The ability to work with colleagues in a collaborative manner, being able to progress multiple tasks independently without close supervision
  • Understanding of user operations and how individual tasks fit into an overall process. It also requires maintaining a constantly updated skill set in new technologies and programming techniques
  • Working knowledge of Jira and other agile methodology requirements.
