Position Details

The Communications Specialist reports to the Director, Enterprise Communications and will be an essential member of the Communications & Public Affairs team. The Communications Specialist will work with and collaborators and partners to ensure team members understand our strategy and are motivated to bring their best selves to work. You will support the development, management and distribution of captivating communications to promote team member advocacy across the global organization. The Specialist recommends and supports the use of communications channels, including social media, intranet and mobile, to enhance team member engagement.

You Will

  • Work to mine and create content (written, visual, audio) to support Grainger's goals across all internal and external channels including company intranet; email; live forums; mobile platforms; and digital signage.
  • Complete the creation, writing, editing, translation, publication, distribution and marketing of all stories across channels to reach wired and non-wired team members. Calibrates with partners on the relevancy of content and identifies and makes adjustments.
  • Manages posting of and content on and measurement of organic social channels.
  • Make recommendations to improve the effectiveness of internal communications; encourage team member use of collaboration communication tools.
  • Produce dashboards that offer insights for channel improvement.
  • Use continuous improvement methodology to develop communication processes and create standardized work.

You Have

  • BA/BS degree in Communications/Public Relations, Journalism, English or related field
  • 1 or more years of in-house communications or agency experience
  • Experience working in a matrix environment
  • Technical competencies with mainstream social media, videography, visual & audio platforms including Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
  • Summarize and communicate complex business information in clear manner
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
