Position Details:
The CGI Artist is responsible for creating visual content in support of merchandizing strategy using 3D computer graphics tools under the direction of the CGI Manager. You will demonstrate competency in core CGI skill sets and be able to produce visual content in accordance with established design principles, following current CGI workflow processes, and within designated scheduled timeframes for delivery. You must demonstrate the ability to follow creative direction and work with relevant partners.
You will report to the Supervisor, Creative Operations.
This is a hybrid position onsite in Lake Forest or Chicago, IL 3 days a week.
You Will:
- Use 3D modeling, mapping, texturing, lighting techniques etc. to create visual content across merchandising channels.
- Review 3D art and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Create 3D models from photo reference and real-world objects.
- Troubleshoot conversion of outsourced assets into the 3D images.
- Attend team meetings to discuss art related issues, work progress, etc.
- Perform online research for project development.
- Manage several projects simultaneously without compromising standards.
- Submit regular feedback on project status.
- Ensure all work meets design standards.
- Assist on development of graphics technology and processes.
- Understand project requirements and develop cost-effective graphic designs using available technology and resources.
- Understand all aspects of Grainger’s publishing processes.
- Inspire and support team members
- Monitor deliverable progress, manage scope changes and changes requests, meet commitments
You Have:
- 5+ years professional experience in CGI, design, digital photography or animation, and experienced in using a CGI software platform such as Maya or Modo.
- BA degree in computer graphics, design, photography or animation is preferred.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent written and oral skills; collaboration with partners in Merchandising and software product management is important.
- Must be detail-oriented.
- Strong modeling skills: experience reading and working off visual reference; working with CAD drawing files; experience with polygonal modeling.
- Strong texturing skills: ability to map geometry; manipulate UVs; adjust textures using Photoshop; create high quality/high resolution tile-able texture; create photo realistic shaders.
- Strong lighting and rendering skills: ability to create strong composition, create shape and separation, and troubleshoot efficient rendering workflows.
- Animation, Visual Effects, Scripting, and/or Compositing skills a plus.
- Excellent working relationships with people in different functional areas.
- Demonstrated Collaboration skills.
