Position Description

The Public Safety Government Program Manager will be the segment owner in their aligned states. They will be responsible for executing the Public Safety (PS) strategy through cross functional work, supplier management, field work, and root cause analysis.  The PS segment includes all state, local, and defined federal customers in law enforcement, fire-rescue/EMS, as well as all correctional facilities.

The GPM will lead the Government Public Safety programs as the subject matter expert / analyst on solving customer business issues and driving profitable sales growth through the integration of Grainger’s major initiatives. The Program Manager will provide leadership to the field sales and management team and identify market opportunities. They will execute the strategies that have been built and work cross functionally to create successful engagements.


The GPM will create tools and sales enablers that supplement the national strategies and drive program awareness, adoption and increase our sellers’ effectiveness and productivity with targeted customers.

The GPM will have knowledge and expertise on how each PS segment and customer can integrate inventory management, e-commerce and safety into their business so we create a significant barrier to exit.  The GPM will work with aligned Brand resources to maintain a detailed understanding of Grainger’s go-to market strategy.

Position Requirements:

  • The states that this Government Program Manager will cover are: PA, DE, MA, NY, NJ, VT, NH, CT, ME, RI - successful candidates will reside within this geography.
  • Preferred Undergraduate – 4 Year College Degree
  • Demonstrate sustained sales success.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and implement programs that address business issues and drives incremental revenue.
  • Self-starter with a high level of motivation.
  • Understand the organizational structure of suppliers and their relationship to Grainger.  Capable of leveraging these relationships to maximum advantage to both parties.
  • Possess effective time management, planning, executive presence and excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to influence and persuade various levels of internal decision makers. Ability to work in a matrix managed environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to sell at multiple levels in organizations.
  • Strong product knowledge and market or industry knowledge and is capable of transferring that knowledge to others.
  • Manage strategic versus tactical activities that maximizes the sales partner efforts and results.
  • Pragmatic thinker with strategic vision.


Must be able to travel between 50-70%, on a regional (assigned states) basis.
