*This role typically is located in our downtown Chicago office, but due to COVID-19 will be fully virtual until further notice.  Once this office location has a return to work plan, the team member will be required to be on-site.



Primary Function

The Technical Architect is the primary technical decision-maker and the design and engineering coach that is embedded with the teams. Their role is to make sure that the team’s work is in alignment with the company’s technology standards, as well as fostering a culture of autonomous delivery and experimentation. They drive results and outcomes from the team by collaborating with their partners in Product to ensure the high and low-level quality of the software, evolve the design and architecture, drive high levels of automation and test coverage, build security in, and ensure the systems achieve appropriate levels of scalability and resilience.  

While working with the development team, in addition to direct contributions to software development, they are constantly looking for opportunities to coach, enable, and expand the skills of the various team members, asking for assistance to do so where necessary.

  • 5 to 8 years of software development experience required. 
  • Strong experience in one or more IT disciplines 
  • Deep understanding of the aligned business domain 
  • Strong technical background in Software Development principals, techniques and best practices 
  • Knowledge of Software Development tools 
  • Good Understanding of Software architecture and design 
  • Good working knowledge of Agile software development methodologies with the ability to leverage to apply this knowledge to enhance an engineering team’s ability to deliver working software 
  • Ability to work independently, plan and prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals   
  • Familiar with the practices and principles of Continuous Integration, Software Testing (TDD, Testing Pyramid, etc) 
  • Mindset to continuously improve the engineering team processes and the skill level of the engineers within the team 
  • Detail oriented 



  • Usually functions with autonomy; requires occasional guidance. Leads the technical team implementing one capability or service. 
  • Expected to influence and improve the engineers they work directly with 
  • Usually works in tandem with an engineering manager.  
  • Expect to spend 70% of time contributing to code base 
  • Reports directly to an Engineering Manager or Director within the engineering organization. 
  • Demonstrated experience with geographically distributed teams in a matrixed environment 
  • The Tech Lead will engage with Product Managers (Software Owners), Architects, Administrators, Engineers, Project and Program managers to help create requirements, prioritize, deliver, and maintain alignment for technical or software deliverables.
