Position Details:
The Customer Data Governance team within Customer Information Design & Operations (CIDO) is formed to operationalize a data governance solution to promote standardized processes aligned to business terms, policies, and regulations. The team will improve the accessibility and quality of our data assets and tools and allow us to provide customer data solutions ensuring data is fit-for-use. Our goal is to ensure Grainger’s ability to grow is unconstrainted by any limitations of customer data.
The Senior Customer Information Business Data Analyst role monitors the CIM system and identify valuable data quality insights that are useful for making decisions. This role is a tangible function of the data governance framework ensuring the data is managed through its complete lifecycle, as an enterprise asset. We are looking for a candidate with data management background who understands data, how to govern and curate data and improve its consistency and quality.
You Will:
- Implement data quality rules, automated measurement / monitoring, issues management framework, operational dashboards, and predictive models for proactive data quality assessment and identification of improvement opportunities
- Define important data quality dimensions, threshold indicators and develop data quality policies, procedures, best practices, and related knowledge content
- Drive cross-functional strategic plans to improve operational excellence by providing customer data quality-driven insights
- Partner with Customer Information teams, source systems data owners, and downstream data consumers to apply advanced data quality techniques through automation to remediate issues, and implement processes to monitor data quality risks, including
- Analyzing data quality results
- Measuring and auditing large volumes of data for quality issues and improvements
- Performing root cause analysis of data anomalies
- Triaging data quality issues and creating remediation plans
- Evaluating and quantifying business impact of data quality issues and making recommendations for data improvements including required process and system changes
- Work with business and technology subject matter experts to understand and interpret logical and physical metadata into business-driven technical data quality rules
- Responsible for architecting data quality processes and finding solutions for summarized executive level reporting
- Orchestrate data quality work within the Agile framework and other methodologies where required for delivery of data quality measurements and results to partners
- Lead efforts to communicate quality of enterprise data assets and the value realized through data improvement efforts
- Lead business and technology teams to achieve data quality governance on main data elements that affect customer outcomes
- Leverage an understanding of the B2B customer information domain to guide Grainger’s approach to growth and service use cases in the US MRO market
You Have:
Education and Background
- 5+ years post-undergraduate experience is required
- Bachelor’s degree is required, MLIS, MLS, MS, or Data Analytics education or equivalent is preferred
- Deep understanding of the B2B Customer Information domain preferred (not required)
Experience
- 5+ years of strong experience leading development of data quality management frameworks, data quality dimension rule creation, and a sound understanding of foundational data management capabilities
- Must have experience in data preparation (profiling, analysis, reporting and cleansing) in large-scale data environments.
- Database knowledge and experience using SQL for querying/profiling databases; experience with R/Python, DB2 and Snowflake required
- A strong understanding of complex data lineage in databases, schemas, tables, and columns.
- An in-depth understanding of Data Quality tooling features and functionality and framework approaches (Collibra, Alation, Informatic, IBM)
- Confident communicator with experience working with stakeholders of all levels including the ability to advise, train and support
- Understanding of ETL & Data warehouse concepts in technologies such as DataStage, Cloudera (Hadoop) etc.
- Experience with machine learning, statistics, or software engineering
- Experience working with Agile methodologies across diverse team
- B2B distribution, Industrial Supply, or MRO experience preferred (not required)
Work Environment:
- Position is aligned to Grainger’s Chicago area office locations
- Up to 10% travel may be required
