Position Details:

At Grainger, we are building systems to extend our market leadership for another 90 years. We are looking for a Sr Manager, UX Research & Measurement (UXR&M) to help us “start with the customer” by integrating research into our work and by measuring the usability of our web and mobile experiences.

The Sr Manager, UX Research & Measurement is a hands-on role that will identify and prioritize research opportunities, plan and execute research studies, help formalize UX metrics, and lead and manage a team of UX Researchers and UX Measurement analysts. The UXR&M team will help inform and improve the design of our customer facing experiences such as and KeepStock, Grainger's Inventory Management solution. This role will report to the Sr Director, User Experience, and will be instrumental in building Grainger’s UX Research and Measurement discipline.


You Will:


  • Provide expertise in planning and conducting exploratory, generative, and evaluative design research


  • Collaborate with UX Design, Product Management, Analytics, and Business Partners to translate business needs into research questions and hypotheses


  • Arm product teams with actionable insights to inform the user experience and product roadmaps


  • Own a research roadmap that will create transparency across products teams and ensure insights are delivered when needed by product teams


  • Increase empathy across the organization by establishing a research program that will give product teams and business partners more exposure to the attitudes and behaviors of users


  • Help build and manage a customer research panel that will enable us to plan and run studies more efficiently


  • Help formalize and operationalize UX Metrics


  • Determine what research tools we need to effectively plan and conduct research


  • Manage and grow our UX Research and Measurement talent



You Have:

  • Expertise in design research methods and tools such as contextual inquiry, surveys, usability testing, journey mapping, and archetype development
  • Expertise in moderating research and facilitating workshops
  • Strong scoping and project management skills
  • Strong verbal and visual communication skills
  • Expertise in synthesizing data and research findings into frameworks and models
  • Experience collaborating with and influencing cross functional teams
  • Experience building a customer research panel
  • A high bar for quality and attention to detail
  • A desire to dig into qualitative and quantitative data to generate insights
  • A deep understanding of experience design, usability, and research best practices
  • Formal education in Psychology, Design, Human Factors, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience focused on user research
  • 2+ years of experience hiring, leading, and developing a team of researchers and analysts
  • Strong understanding of how to use data and metrics to inform designs
  • Work samples that demonstrate your expertise in user research
