Position Details:

Solid Product Information is the foundation for positive internal and customer outcomes across the enterprise. The Senior Data Steward is the accountable owner of protecting the product information asset and ensuring it is connected to positive enterprise outcomes. You will help determine our enterprise product information data governance strategy while supporting plans across our business to ensure product information remains firmly connected to positive commercial outcomes for Grainger.

You will help implement new product information levers and tools, as part of the Product Master Data Governance group, including data models, data standards, data dictionaries, Product Information training programs, and technology support.

You will report to the Senior Manager, Product Information Governance.

 

You Will:

  • Create customer trust in essential product information assets by defining and improving data quality.
  • Establish important product information objects (taxonomies, attributes, attribute values) and their meaning, metadata, rules for use, format, and lineage.
  • Be the custodian of product information assets; provide oversight of essential product information processes and how they produce high-quality customer outcomes, including taxonomy (data model) development, product classification, and attribute schema build.
  • Build and Govern Product Information Guidelines, Data Standards and Data Dictionaries.
  • Research and implement attribute naming conventions, industry/trade names, and categorizations.
  • Review Product Information Architecture plans.
  • Lead broad-ranging projects to improve Product Information quality.
  • Design training materials on product master data governance philosophies, best practices and use of Grainger's Product Information Management (PIM) software.
  • Work with the Grainger Technology Group on development of PIM and other product information-related software.

 

You Have:

Education:

  • MLIS, MLS, MS, or Data Analytics education or equivalent preferred

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in Information Architecture / Taxonomy / Product Information / Master Data Management / Data Governance / Ontology and related competencies
  • Business-to-Business Distribution, Industrial Supply or MRO experience preferred
  • Informal leadership experience preferred, but not necessary
  • Background in research and analysis
  • Work history with large data sets
  • Database management and reporting
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office functionality, especially Excel (Macros, VBA, Pivot Tables, Lookups)
  • Basic to Intermediate skills in Structured Query Language (SQL)
