Position Details:

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer matching team. The Matching team is a Grainger start-up initiative that aims to create an ML solution to provide matching of Grainger products to other internal Grainger products to be used for such business features as suggested product substitutes for our shoppers or align alternative products based on a consumers customer profile

You will help provide matching of Grainger products to external competitor products to be leveraged by internal teams for a data point to in setting a product’s competitive price on gcom or perhaps if a sales team wants to win more business with a customer we can provide matches to competitor products our customer may already be using

You will report to the Senior Manager, Data Engineering and Analytics and can be based in either Lake Forest, IL, downtown Chicago or virtual.


You Will:

  • Enable data science teams by centralizing and integrating high quality and complex data sets for AI/ ML models in a performant and scalable cloud analytical platform
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes
  • Build required tools for extraction, transformation and loading of data from multiple data sources
  • Build frameworks, standards & product features to allow self-service analytics
  • Partner with other teams including data science, product and executive teams and assisting them with data-related technical issues


You Have:

  • 5years of experience with Modern Data Engineering projects and practices: designing, building, and deploying scalable data pipelines with 3 + years of experience deploying cloud native solutions
  • 3 years of experience building data pipelines for AI/ ML models using PySpark or Python
  • 3 years of experience with Artificial Intelligence and machine learning platforms – Databricks and familiarity with lakehouse architecture and delta lake
  • At least 3 years of experience with AWS, SQL, Python, Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD, Git
  • Developed POCs on complex data sets to meet business and technical requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related disciplines or equivalent work experience.
