Position Description:

The Quality Engineer role is a collaborative, creative person who works with every level of the engineering team in shaping Grainger's quality culture, tooling, and capabilities. They usher change, are expert tester, and coach.

You will report to Sr Manager, Product Engineering. This role typically is located in our Lake Forest office, but because of COVID-19 will be virtual until further notice.

You Will:

  • Build all capabilities of our Quality practice, which is a blend of manual, exploratory, and automated testing
  • Act on important quality metrics aligned with achieving goals
  • Establish relationships with partners to ensure high-quality delivery
  • Where applicable, develop usage of repeatable testing approaches and processes
  • Coach junior-level team members in automated testing
  • Perform testing activities with a focus on automation and CI/CD
  • Use experience within a domain to help teams prioritize defects and assess risk
  • Advocate for quality on the sprint team by reflecting on the current state of applications and reviewing defects to expand learning

You Have:

  • 5+ years of testing complex applications
  • 3+ years of manual and exploratory testing of API, web apps or other enterprise software
  • Mobile device testing (iPhone, iPad, Android )
  • Hands-on test automation development (e.g. Selenium, WebdriverIO)
  • Experience with Agile and all associated ceremonies
  • Translate user stories and acceptance criteria into test cases
  • Implement a blend of manual/functional, exploratory, and automated regression testing
  • Validate deployments and quarterly SF releases to all environments
  • Knowledge of testing tools like ALM or Jira


Experience testing web services (SOAP/REST/JSON) using tools like SoapUI.
