Primary Function:

Responsible for regulatory compliance for all products across the Grainger portfolio. Ensures products and suppliers meet all applicable safety and health regulations and industry standards. Applies any applicable restrictions for sale and hazard identifications for transport. Reviews, analyzes, and maintains compliance information related to environmental handling, safety, transportation, and other regulatory requirements for dedicated NA business units. Fulfills and supports customer and business partner inquiries for required compliance and safety documentation. This role reports to Supervisor, Product Compliance.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

•          Review and analyze new product additions in the Grainger portfolio for applicable regulatory requirements across NA business units, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with all state, federal, and provincial laws

•          Research and interpret various regulations and standards to ensure compliance with industry and agency standards for products, including any necessary labeling or documentation

•          Partner with third-party testing laboratories and inspection services to understand and action on regulatory updates, product testing requirements, applicable federal/state/provincial laws, or bans or sales restrictions on specified products

•          Maintain and monitor SDS database, ensuring proper documentation is received and stored, reviewed against regulations, and available for customers

•          Communicate product compliance, regulatory, and/or safety issues as they arise; propose appropriate action plan to leaders for timely resolutions. Resolve any identified issues in a timely manner.

•          Prepare and provide reporting on product compliance issues and impacts

•          Support SDS and labeling requirements to meet Global Harmonization Standard (GHS) and support all other upcoming regulation changes

•          Provide business partners with visibility to product compliance decision-making processes and determinations

•          Work with peers and business partners to support business initiatives and projects

•          Participate in improvement opportunities and provide constructive feedback

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree required or commensurate work experience
  • Experience – 1-3 years of experience in related field preferred.
  • Analytical Skill – Proven experience in research and analysis; highly curious with an aptitude for implementing continuous, iterative improvements. Strong reporting and Excel skills. Product knowledge, laboratory testing, or product inspection/auditing experience or coursework a bonus.
  • Technical Knowledge – Able to understand technical information, concepts, and decisions. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and utilize proprietary tools. Demonstrated ability to use technical support or technical data to inform analysis.
  • Communication – Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Proven ability to communicate both within the organization and with external partners. Able to work well with others within team and across the organization. Demonstrated ability to convey complex issues succinctly and understand when to communicate upward.

Position can be based in Lake Forest or Chicago post pandemic
