Position Details:

As the Lead Technical Coach (Dojo Manager), you will be responsible for staffing, scheduling and management, marketing and data collection for the dojo offerings across Grainger.

You will work with Product Engineering team members, engineers at different level, architects, and shared services teams to understand upcoming technical trends, challenges in the ways of working and the need for improvement.

You will work with Practice Leads and participate in a range of practices to better understand the broad product and technical roadmap of Grainger Technology Group (GTG) to understand what it will take to delivery for our customers.

You will report to the Director of Engineering Effectiveness and will be based in Chicago, IL.

You Will:

  • Work across disciplines to understand how work moves to engineering teams and how teams communicate progress and impediments.
  • Manage the daily work and responsibilities of the dojo and its staff, including full-time employees and contractors
  • Frequently work with technical and product leaders across the organization to understand strategy and collect feedback on the effectiveness of the Dojo and ways of improving.
  • Manage the backlog of Dojo improvements and evolve the dojo offering.
  • Work with teams that have been in the dojo to help ensure friction items are addresses and removed.
  • Can coach teams on an interim basis as the need arises

You Have:

  • 7+ or more years of experience working in or with technology teams
  • Experience leading application and infrastructure teams
  • Understanding of public Cloud including Kubernetes, application services, databases and networking
  • Experience working with different integration methods such API or data streams
  • Experience applying/coaching lean, Agile and DevOps principles to improve the flow of value
  • An understanding of fast feedback loops using DevOps patterns
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related disciplines or equivalent work experience
