Position Details:

We are looking for a Lead Full Stack Engineer to be part of a team building a new product. You will focus on providing Grainger customers with recommendations that help them to improve their spend. This compelling role is part of a team of data engineers, data scientists, full stack engineers, and quality engineers. You have experience building on the public cloud, success in building products from scratch, and a strong foundation in software engineering. Familiarity with reporting concepts.

You can be based in either downtown Chicago or Lake Forest, Illinois and will report to the Senior Director, Information Management.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer.
  • Experience coding in higher-level languages (e.g., PHP, Python, C++, or Java)
  • Cloud-relevant (AWS, GCP, Azure) CLI Scripting
  • Test-driven development or related experience
  • Knowledge of common DevOps tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Jenkins, and Git
  • Knowledge of CI/CD principles and techniques
  • Experience with cloud computing design and security principles
  • Experience with Linux (RHEL, CentOS) OR Windows Server (2008 R2, 2012 R2, 2016 ) environments and the ability to configure and maintain through a Command Line Interface
  • Understand application containerization, APIs or web services
  • Experience using orchestration tools/deploying infrastructure as code (eg Terraform, Cloud Formation etc.)


  • Vendor certification and training
  • Engineering degree, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience
