Position Details:

 

At Grainger, we are the destination for “the ones that get it done.” We are looking for a Lead User Experience Designer to join us in building solutions that demonstrate how Grainger can help our customers better understand their business and meet their business objectives.  The Lead User Experience Designer uses interaction design and data visualization skills to translate complex data into simple, intuitive experiences that allow customers to understand their purchasing activity, make decisions, and proactively take action to optimize what they buy and how they buy it. This role will be aligned to the Customer Data and Insights Product and will report to the Director, UX Design.

 

You Will:

  • Work with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Engineers and User Interface Designers to define and design insights, reporting, and analytical user experiences for Grainger's customers
  • Create concepts to facilitate customer research and stakeholder alignment
  • Continuously incorporate customer research findings and feedback into design concepts
  • Deliver tangible interaction designs through detailed user flows and annotated wireframes for development
  • Think holistically about where and how to display insights across the experience on Grainger.com
  • Understand technical and business constraints and scale designs for iterative release, ensuring user needs are met in each iteration
  • Collaborate with other UX and UI Designers to align on UI patterns and introduce new, reusable design patterns to the design system
  • Communicate design decisions, rationale, and direction when sharing work
  • Conduct evaluative user testing, secondary research, and session replay analysis to optimize experiences

 

You Have:

  • Formal education in Human Centered Design, Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Product Design, or related field
  • 5+ years of UX experience working with an agile product team; corporate B2B experience preferred
  • A deep understanding of data visualization, design, usability, and accessibility
  • Experience designing complex, data-intensive applications for analytical use cases
  • Experience working with a lean, continuous delivery, and fast-paced product team
  • Experience with responsive web design
  • Experience utilizing and contributing to a design system
  • Proficiency in common wireframing tools
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Initiative to proactively plan and execute work
  • The ability to make thoughtful decisions when faced with ambiguity 
  • Work samples that show how you broke down complexity, empathized with the user, and balanced user needs, business needs, and technical considerations
