Compensation
The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $176,300.00 to $293,800.00. This role is incentive eligible.

Position Details:
The Director of Engineering in Customer Order is an engineering leader responsible for the transformation of some our most critical systems. You have a strong background in modern software delivery and can guide creation and priority of features and capabilities through leadership, execution, facilitating communication, and understanding the boundaries of their specific domain applying their technical mindset. Leading in this space requires a strong grasp of cloud-native distributed systems and a passion for transformational change.
You will report to the Sr. Director of Product Engineering. This is a hybrid role based in our Chicago Offices.
You Will:
You will manage a team of Senior Engineering Managers, Engineering Managers, and Snr Staff Engineers.
You will partner with product and business stakeholders to shape the vision for Customer Order technology and collaborate early and often with architecture, engineering peers, and product management. You’ll drive continuous improvement of our processes at a domain level and ensure we’re investing in growing and nurturing the right skills and culture in our teams.
Domain responsibilities:
- 
Roadmap delivery: You will lead multiple development teams capabilities to power Customer Order. Your teams are specifically focused on channel-agnostic APIs that need to be highly available and resilient. You’re responsible for facilitating an effective delivery process that delivers on top priorities. This includes forecasting delivery, proactively addressing risks, and advocating for technical change and improvement when needed.

Modern Engineering and Cloud Technologies: Promote and embed skills that allow the use of the cloud, containers, serverless, and the use of test automation.
 
- 
Team structure and staffing: Monitor current team boundaries and makeup against delivery priorities and suggest adjustments to improve delivery throughput and quality.
 
- 
Proactively management technical risk: Ensure security risks are understood and prioritized appropriately, understand the whole technology landscape you’re accountable for and partner with product and architecture to prioritize improvements aligned to our business goals.
 
- 
Operational excellence: ensure systems meet necessary SLAs, are resilient, and product support process is high functioning.
 
- 
Team culture: Set the tone for a culture of continuous learning where engineers can do their best work and are driven to grow and improve.
 
Team responsibilities:
- 
Personnel Management: The Director directly manages a group of Engineering Managers and is indirectly responsible for all the engineering teams under those managers. Issue of team personnel could require their attention or their direct intervention.
 
- 
Built-in Quality: The Director will monitor quality metrics (Ex. Escaped Defects, Mean Time to Resolution) to ensure that the Engineering Managers are encouraging a culture that places heavy emphasis on building quality into the software that is written. Using methods like Test-driven Development, the Director should help to create a system for teams to deliver their best work.

Lifecycle Management: The Director will oversee the health and efficiency of the SDLC for their domain. You should work with all departments, teams, and individuals to ensure the methods of software delivery is smooth and that all operational expenses are providing the desired outcomes.
 
- 
Technology Champion: The Director will be an advocate for the technology that the teams in their domain create. While the Director is not directly responsible for the design decisions that the teams make, they should always be aware of the outcomes, challenges, and choices the teams are facing.
 
You Have:
- 
5+ years of people management experience
 
- 
5+ years of demonstrated experience in SLDC using Agile methodologies, continuous delivery, cloud and modern engineering approaches to solve business problems. Experience with XP practices is a plus.
 
- 
Experience managing teams building APIs and event driven systems
 
- 
Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related study or equivalent project-related experience.
