Position Details:

At Grainger, we are building systems that will extend our market leadership for another 90 years. While lots of companies talk about "digital revolutions" or "delightful experiences", we're focusing on building the stuff that matters. The Portfolio Director will be required to thoroughly understand the technology required to operationalize Grainger's short and long-term plans.

This role reports to the VP, Digital Strategy.

You Will:

Strategic Planning and Opportunity Identification:

Serve as the interface to enterprise business functions for the purpose of aligning business, digital, and IT strategies.

Create added value to the business functions through proactively identifying and advocating technology opportunities.

Assist the business functions in forecasting, documenting, and planning for future needs, and translate business strategies into technology plans and forecasts.

Conduct needs and impact analysis on business requests to appropriately scope proposed opportunities, including problem definition and sizing.

Ensure thorough cost-benefit analysis and business cases to understand economics of proposed opportunities.


 

Roadmap and Solutioning:

Work with business functions to collaboratively define, shape, articulate and prioritize requirements and business cases as part of roadmap.

Partner with Architecture and Engineering teams to develop solution options and provide insight into the future strategic direction of the business.

Use feedback and input from Engineering teams on current production efforts to inform future solutions and better collaborate with functional partners.

Identify and address risks associated with IT and digital solutions.


 

Identify opportunities for business, IT, and digital experiments and proofs of concept.

Reinforce and ensure compliance.

Solution Delivery:

Develop success criteria with business leaders and measure progress of IT and digital initiatives.

Lead delivery of initiatives, including work prioritization, status updates, and issue resolution.

Collaborate across Portfolio Management team to identify potential conflicts or coordination needs.

Ensure transparency to stakeholders of new or changing requirements and their impact.

Facilitate regular reviews and overall customer satisfaction.

Technology and People Leadership:

Partner with stakeholders to identify, define and translate both enterprise and unique requirements into technology roadmaps.

Influence executive leaders and business functions, country/regional managers, and global process owners.

Lead, engage and develop a high-performing team.

Identify and create opportunities to collaborate with others across organizational boundaries and geographies.

Work with a long-term and cross-organization perspective.

You Have:

  • 10+ yrs of experience in IT related field
  • Broad range of exposure to various technical environments and business segments
  • Experience managing technical teams
  • Strong business/financial and tech acumen
  • Strong background in IT and/or Digital service delivery and direct business engagement roles
  • Extensive experience in strategic planning, business development, client management and change management
  • Built, maintained and improved trusted sr management relationships
  • Led the design and implementation of system wide IT and/or Digital projects
  • Experience with IT program and portfolio management
  • Played a key role in the development and led the deployment of a strategy in a large function
  • Developed an external network of industry contact and advisors
  • PMP and or Scrum certification or relevant experience
