Position Details:

 

The Director of Marketing Optimization will develop opportunities to use data and analytics to improve marketing effectiveness and efficiency, driving eight to nine figures of incremental revenue for Grainger. You will partner with Marketing Technology to determine digital marketing tech stack strategy. Directly oversee audience analysis, attribution, and practical execution of strategic programs across channels. Partner with both the digital marketing channel teams and data science / analytics teams to achieve results. You will also evaluate different optimization tools (eg, Unsupervised, FullContact) and determine the right mix of purchased/proprietary bidding algorithms and will use data from multiple sources to attain deeper insights on strategies that are most effective to promote returns (as defined by a mix of short-term sales and acquiring high-LTV customers). Build prototype data structures and models with minimal dev-team involvement, prove out their value, and subsequently work with the digital product management team to develop more scalable/enterprise versions. This role can also change the way the entire marketing team thinks about optimization, and transform the whole organization's perspective about how we use data to run our business. You will report to Senior Director, Digital Marketing.

Location:  combination of downtown Chicago (Merchandise Mart) and Lake Forest, IL; ability to be in office as needed to lead team

Travel:  approximately 10-20% 


 

You Will:

 

  • Grow a talented and high-performance team
  • Identify and use data from multiple sources to provide deeper insights and optimization opportunities than are generally available in single-channel tools
  • Build and test prototype data structures/ models working with data engineering and data science teams (informal leadership)
  • Leverage and evaluate a combination of proprietary and purchased algorithms and tools
  • Advance end to end measurement methodology that is inclusive of cross channel attribution
  • Directly oversee Digital Channel audience analysis, attribution, and practical execution of strategic programs across channels to inform business partners of the attributed metric insights.
  • Partner with both the Digital Marketing Channel Teams, Data Science/ Analytics, and Activation/ Audience strategy teams to achieve results
  • Partner with the Marketing Technology team to define digital marketing tech stack strategy

 

You Have:

 

  • Advanced degree in technical/quantitative function (Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science) or MBA
  • Experience with unstructured and structured data, database tools, statistical and data science techniques, and digital marketing software.
  • 10+ years of analytical, data science and marketing experience
  • Mastery of and data science techniques (deep learning, neural networks)
  • Expertise in relevant programming languages (eg, SQL, Python, R)
  • Experience with digital marketing software, technologies and processes.
  • Ability to think "end-to-end" through a process
  • Creative but practical problem solver - 80/20 ability
  • Experience leading teams with gifted technical abilities
  • Strong business acumen and communication skills
