Job Title:  Sr. Product Procurement Optimization Analayst

Primary function:

The Sr. PPO Analyst is responsible for leading the analytics to support the portfolio review process, as well as, additional cost saving initiatives. In addition, the Sr. PPO Analyst is responsible for supporting the development of portfolio optimization strategies to ensure Grainger delivers the best assortment at the best cost.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead market and fact base research to build foundational information to support portfolio strategy validation and sourcing strategy development.
  • Analyze, develop, recommend and manage global activities that achieve the global cost savings goal of approximately $40M per year.
  • May serve as the cross functional lead for portfolio reviews and other cost savings initiatives (e.g. Global Line Reviews).
  • Research and evaluate global product portfolio for potential cost savings opportunities. Present findings and recommendations to global business units for review.
  • Support the formulation of the negotiation strategies, preparation and delivery.
  • Identify and investigate cost savings opportunities including cost / gross margin analysis, assessments of key trends in global supply chain, profile markets and industry analysis.
  • Leads the development of analytics, financial scorecards, Source of Truth (SOT), cost savings models for Portfolio Reviews and other cost savings initiatives.
  • Builds relationships with Product Managers across business units to identify fact based cost savings opportunities.
  • Develop ad hoc reports to support Portfolio Reviews and other cost savings initiatives.
  • Facilitate discussions around analytical insights that drive portfolio decisions. Deliver recommendations based on output.
  • Develop repeatable processes and analytical models to reduce cycle time of cost savings initiatives and Portfolio Reviews.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities across Portfolio Reviews and lead initiatives to execute improvements and standardize processes where applicable.
  • Support planning, review, and implementation strategy to ensure portfolio optimization recommendation is executed in a timely manner.
  • Efficiently utilize Grainger internal reporting systems for cost analytics (e.g. SAP, Teradata, and Business Warehouse) in addition to 3rd party systems.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred degree in Business, Supply Chain / Operations, Economics, Finance or related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in analysis with an emphasis in supply chain and/or finance / analytics.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, etc.) Experience in BW, Teradata, Business Objects, ThinkCell and SAP is preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management, financial analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to find creative solutions to problems, ability to effectively collaborate with team members.
  • Self-directed, flexible and able to work independently.
  • Attention to detail, ability to multi-task and strong organizational skills.
  • Has proven relationship building skills and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively in various ways to upper management (e.g. written, oral, and presentation).
  • Understanding of general business issues including external factors that impact the business, industry, product strategy, and pricing.
  • Experience with coaching and mentoring team members to drive project initiatives is preferred.

These activities support the achievement of the PPO and Global Purchasing Strategy cost savings goal of approximately $40M annually and product line expansion and consolidation initiatives across the organization.
