Position Description

The Sr. Mgr Service and Solutions is responsible for working with functional leadership teams to provide strategic oversight to develop outside third party supplier relationships providing broad coverage for the types of products and services Solution and Services requires.

This role will also provide strategic oversight to the Services and Solutions build center, managing all partner relationship to efficiently, cost-effectively and reliably support, maintain and enhance the ability to support the Grainger Industrial Supply business. In addition, the role will be responsible for designing and executing strategic initiatives which includes Supplier Selection processes, managing the total product and/or service acquisition cost, researching and recommending best demonstrated practices, planning and executing business customer and supplier education programs.

1. Manage supplier relationships including Roadnet, CribMaster, VEI and Seaga. (This could expand to include Safety Services suppliers)

  • Own and Lead short and long term long term strategic suppler engagement and development process   
  • Develop performance metrics/SLA and hold suppliers accountable to performance standards
  • Lead monthly Operating Review meetings, quarterly/annual strategic partnership planning sessions
  • Develop and implement escalation/1:1 communication process for project work and issue resolution      

2. Strategic oversight of Build Center operations where approximately 2000 vending machines are assembled, built and distributed / year

  • Develop the strategy for vending solutions, including working with the Solutions team in Lake Forest to determine the best machine type, technology, and future suppliers.
  • Develop daily/weekly/monthly performance standards and hold Build Center team accountable to performance standards  
  • Build and execute a consolidated Build Center strategy that aligns external vendors, suppliers and assets to reduce cycle time and cost 
  • Manage Build Center Manager and staff
  • Develop and implement Continuous Improvement philosophy and processes to reduce waste and drive cost out of machine build/configuration process
  • Manage machine refurbishment process
  • Manage strategic projects related to the build center

3. Develop strategic partnership with Product Management to improve downstream processes

  • Analyze the impact and lead the deployment of product line optimizations (Fastener House, Glove PPO, low lead/regulatory, etc.)
  • Expand vend ready packaged product offering
  • Improve discontinued product process including valid product substitutes and adequate field notification (Onsite Representative notification at the point of scan)
  • Develop proactive approach to customer/seller notification of product changes

4. Asset Management/Parts Management (over $10 Million / year)

  • Asset Management and Parts Management including the refurbishment process and the build center.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Information Services or equivalent related experience; MBA desirable.
  • 7+ years experience with proven expertise managing supplier relationships, specifically manufacturers, including contract negotiation, ongoing maintenance and support and problem-resolution
  • Experience leading in a manufacturing environment
  • Quality/CI/Lean experience
  • Strong financial acumen – prior experience managing a P&L preferred
  • Matrix management, cross-functional experience
  • Supply chain experience
  • Strategic mindset and ability to execute on strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn, become competent in, and effectively apply new skills.
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of several negotiating teams ensuring milestones are achieved on schedule.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to foster loyalty, collaboration and trust within teams as well as with suppliers.
  • Demonstrates accountability for actions and decisions. Strong decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; proven background in developing high performing, diverse teams along with the ability to lead cross functional work teams
