Primary Function:

 

This role is accountable and responsible for the development, improvement, and overseeing the implementation of the Product Information Processes aligned to Product Information and Search strategies.  This includes but not limited to Proactive and Reactive Product Information Management, Business Critical activities, Search and Indexing, and Reporting and Analytics.  The Product Information Process lead will lead team through the identification, business impact ranking, and prioritization of the department’s process opportunities.

 

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accountability and responsibility for ensuring the improvement to the associated processes are properly implemented by providing recommendations, direction, guidance, oversight, and communication of efforts related to Product Information Operations and Search initiatives as well as cross-functional teams assigned to support the processes.
  • Lead Product Information and Search endeavors focused on enhancing every facet of Grainger’s global product information supply chain and the customer’s product information and search experience. The main focus is to develop, manage, and improve the processes they are aligned to within Product Information and Search to maintain strategic alignment between the company mission, associated processes, and the applicable internal business partners. 
  • Define process, system, or reporting requirements to necessary business partners.  Provide leadership and strategic direction with the sole purpose of improving Product Information and Search processes and to support cross functional internal and external stakeholders to deliver the greatest benefit to the overall organization.

     

  • Develop and manage the communication plan and coordinating the work appropriately.  The Product Information Process Lead will implement communications internal to Product Information and Search, Merchandising, Publishing, and Supplier Management (MSM) as they relate to Product Information and Search processes.  They will be the point of contact for other types of communications into and out of Product Information and Search. Serve as the voice of Product Information and Search and drive a consistent message across all channels.

 

  • Responsible for day to day process compliance and adherence.  Recommend solutions by leveraging facts and illustrating impact to the business (OPEX, Sales, Customer Experience, etc.)  Ensure process documentation is created and up to date on a consistent basis.

     

  • Anticipates problems and resolves them or escalates them to the appropriate level of management for resolution in order to ensure proper completion within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Diagnose Lead large cross-functional teams through projects and continuous improvement activities that align to overall process strategy/ plan.  Consult with MSM and global business partners to ensure strategic alignment and share best practices.

     

  • Developing measurement plans and dashboards; monitoring and reporting on critical metrics and KPIs; and developing prioritization models aligned to Product Information and Search. Monitor process metrics and KPI’s and communicate progress and opportunities for improvement on consistent basis.

     

  • Develop process strategies.  Develop plan and priority model to implement strategies.  Strategies must be data driven/customer-centric.

 

  • Develops strong cross-functional business partner relationships at various levels of the organization to gain alignment.  Develops and maintains open and productive communication channels across all stakeholders. 
  • Define process, system or reporting requirements to necessary business partners.
  • Product Information and Search needs of customers and internal stakeholders including but not limited to Merchandising, Customer Service, Marketing Communications, Technical Support, Brand, Sales, and Global Business Units.

Preferred Education & Experience:

Experience and knowledge base:

  • 3-5 years of experience in related field preferred.
  • BS/BA required or commensurate work experience. MS/MA/MBA preferred.

 

Critical skills:

  • Project Management -- Leverage best practices such as DMAIC/ Lean / Agile to identify opportunities and provide recommendations on process improvements.  Able to delegate to team members to support the implementation of the improvements.

 

  • Strategic Thinking – Take a big picture, long term view; identify risks and opportunities; develop plans to achieve company and department objectives; set priorities.

 

  • Leadership – Provide overall direction on process improvements and clearly articulate problem, recommendation, and business requirements.  Drive results through others with limited leadership involvement.

 

  • Critical and Systemic Thinking – Strong knowledge of MRO industry, understanding of Product Information Management systems, and product data management methodologies a strong plus.

 

  • Change Management – Able to introduce change and bring key stakeholders and partners through the change management curve.  Influence and align team members, business partners and cross functional partners in an effort to achieve targets and goals.

 

  • Communication – Must possess excellent verbal and written communication; active listening; take and distill complex information into a clear and appropriate messaging.

 

  • Relationship Building – Identify key internal and external business partners and stakeholders at all levels and develop effective and strong partners in a matrixed corporate environment including Senior Leaders across the organization, 3rd party vendors, suppliers, and global partners.  Ability to work independently and in a team environment.  Cross-functional team experience with demonstrated skills in interpreting situations, analyzing problems, and handling issues with diplomacy.

 

  • Business and Financial Acumen – Knowledge and application of business strategies; effectively evaluate costs/benefits of varying options.  Possesses strong working knowledge of business strategies across Supply Chain, Merchandising, Product Information, Publishing, and Marketing.  

 

  • Adaptable – Able to adapt to change and react to the changing needs of the business.  Can set a clear path forward even when situations are ambiguous.

 

  • Customer Knowledge -- Keen awareness of increasing consumer expectations around Product Information and Search.
