Position Description

The Transportation Specialist is responsible for data extraction and forming analytics on Transportation data and for calculating metrics, identifying issues and opportunities, and creating both standard and ad hoc reporting.  This position works independently and has to prioritize and manages multiple tasks at one time.  They must be able to lead and manage a team during process improvements or projects, own/manage workstreams on special projects.


  • Perform rich analysis relevant to freight claims, damages and other exceptions
    • Own generation of monthly damage metrics and analytical observations and callouts
    • Identify opportunities to address causes of damages
  • Conduct analysis on additional spend requests and approvals to identify trends and opportunities to better control such spend
  • Partner with Procurement to establish contractual agreements with carriers for additional Accessorials that require approval
  • Perform ongoing analysis of Shipping Support requests to identify shifting trends in exceptions and issues
  • Identify root causes and improvement opportunities to address trends that lead to shipping delays, increased cost, and operational inefficiencies
  • Engage Transportation Operations to collaboratively align with DCs, Branches, Ryder, SPM, etc. to address improvement opportunities
  • Engage broad carrier base to ensure compliance with expectations around Dispositions requests
  • Establish reporting, KPIs and metrics for Shipping Support, Claims performance and Freight Payment


Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years degree in business or its equivalent
  • Accounting, AP or transportation pricing experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster collaboration within a team, with business partners and with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective time-management and organizational skills are required to be able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Systems – must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.  Experience with SAP and Microsoft Access and/or other databases and reporting tools are a plus
  • Query writing skills utilizing tools including Business Objects, Teradata, StarBrite, etc.
  • Able to maintain a professional attitude at all times, particularly when dealing with people in complex and stressful situations and exhibits a strong send of urgency.
