Position Description:
The Technical Architect is the primary technical and the design and engineering coach that is embedded with the teams. Their role is to make sure that the team's work is with the company's technology standards, and encouraging a culture of autonomous delivery and experimentation. They achieve results and outcomes from the team by working with their partners in Product to ensure the high and low-level quality of the software, evolve the design and architecture, promote high levels of automation and test coverage, build security in, and ensure the systems achieve appropriate levels of scalability and resilience.
While working with the development team, in addition to direct contributions to software development, they are constantly looking for opportunities to coach and allow the skills of the team members, asking for assistance to do so where necessary.
You will report to Sr Manager, Product Engineering. You will be typically located in our downtown Chicago office, but because of COVID-19 will be virtual until further notice.
You Will:
- Provide high-quality code
- Coach team members
- Review team code
- Guide implementation choices within a service/capability
- Work with Group Tech Lead and other Tech Leads
- Work with Product to prioritize work backlog
- Encourage ongoing team ceremonies

You Have:
- 5+ years of software development experience..
- Experience in one or more IT disciplines
- Experience with the aligned business domain
- Technical background in Software Development principals, techniques and best practices
- Knowledge of Software Development tools
- Experience with Software architecture and design
- Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies with the ability to use to apply this knowledge to enhance the engineering team's ability working software.
- Work independently, plan and prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals
- Familiar with the practices and principles of Continuous Integration, Software Testing (TDD, Testing Pyramid)
- Mindset to improve the engineering team processes and the skill level of the engineers within the team
- Usually functions with autonomy; requires occasional guidance. Lead the technical team implementing one capability or service.
- Expected to influence and improve the engineers they work directly with
- Usually work in collaboration with an engineering manager.
- Expect to spend 70% of time contributing to codebase
- Experience with geographically distributed teams in a matrixed environment
- The Tech Lead will engage with Product Managers (Software Owners), Architects, Administrators, Engineers and project managers to help create requirements, prioritize and provide understanding for technical or software deliverables.
