Vice President, Marketing and Digital Commerce

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

This position is responsible for advancing development and enabling fully integrated company marketing strategies, reflective of a “phone first supported by multichannel eCommerce” business model.  With particular emphasis on advancing company digital commerce capabilities for today and the future, he/she will develop and lead the strategic vision, development, and execution of company-wide marketing capabilities.  Responsibilities, through reporting leaders, include digital commerce and all promotion and product management activity, to meet financial objectives in existing and new markets. Reporting functions include traditional marketing, digital marketing and customer facing eCommerce development, product information, and product management. The role is accountable for successfully coordinating all the aforementioned functions with Sales and other Company functions to maximize financial effectiveness of omni-channel selling activities, with particular emphasis on eCommerce capabilities.

 

PRINCIPALL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  

 

  • Develop and lead growth strategies on the basis of market segmentation,  product category, and digital customer acquisition in the pursuit of exceeding company revenue and profit goals. Drive a well-integrated approach to marketing and product management to best address the customer experience with focus on leveraging ecommerce  channels. Collaborate with Sales in meeting revenue targets via efforts to acquire, grow, and retain customers, across all channels.
  • Commensurate with current revenue size, an historical company 20 year double digit revenue CAGR, and aggressive company aspirations, provide leadership and directional insights to digital marketing and selling development and capabilities. Work closely with IT leadership to develop and manage budget and personnel resources designed to keep company eCommerce capabilities at, or ahead of, customer expectations and equal to or ahead of market competition.
  • Drive advancement in near and long term program direction.  Develop and secure budget to further support an existing and rapidly maturing digital program.  Drive progressive advancement in SEO, SEM, PIM, digital customer acquisition, digital analytics, and other requisite ecommerce programs.
  • Insure best possible ROI on comprehensive multi-channel marketing strategies and programs. Comfortably work to meet short term and long term revenue, gross margin, and earnings goals. Own functionally rolled up budget process and execution.
  • Collaborate and exert influence regarding marketing, digital, and other counterparts at Grainger. Appropriately, leverage Grainger resources, to best position Imperial Supplies in our chosen markets. Leverage Grainger market leading expertise in ecommerce for application in Imperial’s environment.  Understand Grainger’s position on branding, legal, and other policy issues. Respond as appropriate to the Imperial culture and business model.
  •  Communicate company marketing and resource deployment strategies to other company leaders. Provide education on marketplace eCommerce developments that are impactful, today and projected, such that resources can be effectively assigned amongst other competing company initiatives. Stays abreast of rapidly evolving digital marketing practices and technologies in order to remain competitively current and customer-relevant with our own program development.

  • Provide direction through the Director of Product Management, to drive product growth strategies and tactics that are aligned with company strategies. Foster a comprehensive approach in integrating digital strategies, product management strategies, product information, and marketing efforts. Efforts in relation to product line extension programs, product rationalization, line review activity, new market development requirements, all require alignment in building a powerful offering to the customer, within the Imperial value proposition.
  • Ensure appropriate skill sets are acquired and subsequently developed to meet functional needs. Responsible for overall areas’ talent management. Responsible for continuous improvement of engagement scores in functional areas of responsibility.
  • Will assume responsibility for driving company strategic planning activities. This includes periodic, if not annual, planning sessions for senior management, as well as the monitoring and facilitation of interim planning meetings.  

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

 

  • An undergraduate degree is required however, an MBA would be desirable
  • 10-15 years marketing management experience with 5-10 years supervisory experience
  • At least 3 years leadership experience specifically in eCommerce or closely related discipline
  • At least 5 years marketing experience in a B2B environment; experience in MRO markets, a plus
  • Experience in leading a product management function at the category level, if not the entire Product Management function
  • Demonstrated skills in market strategic planning
  • Demonstrated skills in eCommerce development and application
  • Personnel management and problem resolution skills
  • Must be results oriented, organized, able to handle multiple and rapidly changing priorities and work in a fast paced environment
  • Strong analytic skills, ability to forecast and plan strategically
  • Comfort composing/discussing a financial ROI
  • High web/digital aptitude; comfort with a multitude of ecommerce software and app’s
