Position Description

THIS POSITION IS BASED IN LAKE FOREST

Improve vendor supply chain service and overall supply chain cost

  • Determine root cause, supply chain deficiencies and operational gaps that result in availability failures to customers by engaging and collaborating with Fortune 500, multi-national vendors at the Executive level, and determine solutions and strategies for improvement
  • Provide long term, strategic supply chain solutions to key Grainger supplier partners, and lead in the cross-functional engagement and execution of these solutions
  • Understand and prioritize the supplier’s Service and Cost components of operational performance and their interdependencies, and be able to plan and implement action plans for improvement.
  • Prepare, train, and educate suppliers on internal processes, supply chain best practices, and key performance indicators prior to and throughout operations with Grainger.
  • Partner with suppliers to review their operations, make recommendations for improvement, and lead change.
  • Collaborate with key cross functional supply chain partners (including but not limited to Product Management, Inventory Planning, DC Operations, Enterprise Systems, Accounts Payable, and Transportation) to pro-actively identify and solve vendors’ supply chain issues affecting Grainger’s cost and service to customers.
  • Educate and train internal stakeholders on key Logistics Management processes, procedures, and initiatives; act as the SME of Grainger’s and the vendor’s supply chain.

     

    Develop and implement strategies to better manage Grainger’s inventory and product life cycle

  • Working with Inventory Planning, manage and improve Grainger’s overall supply chain costs by balancing inventory carrying costs with customer service and availability, resulting in the efficient execution of the item lifecycle process (new items, discontinued items, and removing excess, obsolete, and 3rd party inventory).
  • Negotiate and execute supplier returns, determining cost, channel, and timing of $3M-$5M of excess, obsolete, and 3rd party inventory.
  • Identify and improve errors or inefficiencies in the supply chain (inbound pack quantities, unit of measure, labeling, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Advanced Ship Notice (ASN), etc.) that add cost and affect service to the business and customers.

     

    Identify and Lead/Execute Process Improvement Opportunities

Provide leadership and guidance to challenge and continuously improve supply chain and supplier processes and procedures, impacting overall supply chain cost and efficiency.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Distribution, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to foster, manage and influence relationships at varying levels internally & externally up to the executive level to reach stated objectives and strategic goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster collaboration within team, with business partners, and with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Supply Chain Management fundamentals, including inventory planning, DC operations, and transportation.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize work, quickly learn and become competent in, and effectively apply new skills.  Systematic thinking and problem solving are critical.
  • Financial acumen, with a focus on understanding the cost/benefit of varying solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience in a field of supply chain management preferred.
  • CPM, CPIM, or CSCP certification a plus.
  • Exposure to SAP and BW desirable.
  • Experience in project management a plus.
  • Exposure to business disciplines outside of Supplier Performance.
  • Proficient in Excel and Access or other database and reporting tools.
