Primary Function:

This position plays a meaningful role in supporting the Grainger Canada’s controllership team.  The controllership team is responsible for accurate financial information through extensive review, analysis, interpreting of financial metrics and benchmarking.  This role supports the precise collection, analysis, and conversion of business data into actionable insights.

 

This role is based in Grainger Canada’s Controllership office in Winnipeg, Canada.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Job reports into the Senior Manager Asset Accounting & Taxation

  • Review inventory standard costs and work with other areas of the business to ensure correct inventory valuation.
  • Analyze vendor and customer rebates recorded in the accounting system, ensuring they align with company policies and contractual agreements.
  • Analyses large volumes of purchase price variances and determining the appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Review balance sheet and income statement accounts to identify variances and explain underlying business reasons for changes in activity.  Support month-end close process by performing journal entries and analysis as required.
  • Work with global and local management to develop future state of inventory accounting processes related to SAP upgrades / system changes.
  • Design and develop comprehensive dashboards and reporting leveraging Power BI or similar business intelligence tools.  Create both standard and customized reports to summarize business, financial, and economic data for various business partners.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, accounting, supply chain, and IT, to address data-related challenges.

 

 

Preferred Education & Experience

  • CPA, currently pursuing a CPA designation or equivalent experience considered
  • Financial statement acumen, including knowledge of connectivity between Profit & loss, Balance Sheet and Cashflow statements.
  • Adherence to deadlines, especially during the monthly and quarterly close process. Additional hours may be required during close cycles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to understand the details and effectively present to Senior Management in a clear and concise manner.
  • Independently problem-solve and be able to determine root cause and develop action plans to resolve issues
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships and influence decision making.
  • Proven expertise in using data visualization tools like Microsoft Power BI for data analysis and visualization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced features for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages, such as SQL, Snowflake, Alteryx, Power Query or others.
