Primary Function:

This role assumes responsibility for developing textual rich content strategies for assigned Grainger product categories. You will research different MRO and work with merchandisers and other in-house product experts to develop plans for using copy to address common customer questions and improve their discovery and selection of products. You are also responsible for implementing the plan by writing and editing copy that is clear and accurate and that follows quality standards and style guidelines.  The Bilingual Technical Copywriter will report directly to the Onsite Search & Content Manager and is an affiliated team member of the Grainger Canada Merchandising department.

This role is a hybrid full-time position (3 days in office, 2 days from home) based out of 123 Commerce Valley Drive East, Thornhill, Ontario.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

This role is responsible for developing and executing textual rich copy strategies and tactics associated with optimizing onsite search, SEO and to answer common customer questions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Research assigned products to develop an understanding of how they work and how customers use them to ensure an effortless customer selection experience
  • Work with Merchandising Strategy to develop approach for using textual rich content to inform customers about assigned products and illustrate value of assortment
  • Write product copy that meets publishing standards for print and digital publications by anticipating and addressing common customer questions to help customers make fast purchase decisions
  • Collaborate well with partners such as Product Information and Search, Content Strategy, Marketing, and other Publishing teams to ensure that copy produced augments and complements other presentation elements (e.g., product data, photography, and site structure)
  • Research and sufficiently document all copy statements to ensure they are supported by manufacturer literature, industry standards, product data, or Merchandising guidance
  • Maintain awareness of competitors' performance to ensure our publications exceed industry standards.
  • Maintain clarity and consistency of copy style, ensuring the team's editorial style guide reflects any revisions or additions discussed with Onsite Search & Content Manager
  • Support merchandising improvement projects

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Must have 2-3 years of experience in large, multi-channel organizations
  • Bilingual French/English is required
  • Proven short-form copywriting experience, particularly within the eCommerce space. 
  • Experience with technical product information and feature-benefit copy principles, and the ability to translate them into concise, customer-friendly language
  • Strong experience with rules of grammar, punctuation, and style
  • Working knowledge of keyword research and basic SEO principles
  • Natural curiosity about how industrial product work
  • Proven success working in teams with dynamic, analytics-driven, multi-channel work environments
  • Understanding of Product Information Management systems and product data management methodologies; experience with Stibo Systems (STEP) is an asset.
  • High attention to detail / proven organizational skills
  • Familiarity with product taxonomy research; demonstrated ability to translate research into tactical actions
  • Strong communication skills, detail orientation and business acumen
  • High-level knowledge of the MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) industry and industrial products a strong plus
  • Adept at prioritization and multitasking
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Strong systemic thinking and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
